  1. Thanks for your comments and likes, jury still out on the painting, time will tell.
  2. Covers done the instructions were saying to mount them on 2mm wood but I think they look better flush as the replica is.Maybe leave the hinges etc brass or paint them black not sure yet.
  3. Hi,all I did was paint it no special preparation,it's matt ochre an admiralty paints colour.
  4. Hi Brian, you could look up similar ship your size as a comparison e.g. the fly. Some guys have double planked a single planked hull looks good, the second planks are only 0.6mm thick, bend easy and come in sapelli mahogany etc.Or as you say smooth it out then paint whatever you think looks the best to you.You did the right thing with your kit choice, one you like,I still like my first model palamos fishing boat, nice wood colours.
  5. Thanks for your comments, the stern female figures are brass cast supplied in the occre kit.The stern decoration is stamped onto thin brass supplied as well.
  6. Hi Brian you're going real well,i would go with # 2 above. With the planking tutorial that is probably good for single planking,i like 2 layers of planks then you can sand and fill small dimples until it's smooth with the first layer then have the second planks looking good. The good thing about wood is you can always re do something you don't like or mess up where plastic you only get one attempt at it.Search the build logs for anyone else that is doing your ship that has helped me so much.Ron.
  7. Thanks a lot Greg and Popeye, time for some spinach.
  8. Thanks Dave,i think all of the kits and replica are different.I put my wales on before the second planking.
  9. Hi Frank I found those planking screws really hard on the fingers, now I just use drawing pins as long as the planks are dry, much easier.
  10. Thanks Popeye hope it keeps going o.k.Thanks Frank the natural planking is just limewood with a light yellow stain and sapelli below the wale similar to mahogany with dull cote brushed on.I like the sapelli looks nice.
  11. Great job Dave are you sure it's your first wooden ship?.Everyone's Endeavour will be differant whether you follow the books or replica and all the kits as well.I just do what i think looks o.k.Nice work.
  12. Thanks Alistair, just had a week off so got something done after food poisoning. Thanks Greg this is the second time I've had the anchor rope holes through the stem nowhere near lining up from inside the hull to outside.Where would you drill the holes to go into the hold? Thanks Slog and Doug it looks better from a distance just looking at colours from other builds and the replica.
  13. Beautifull ship Denis it's been great following you.The rigging looks very complex.I can't wait to see you start the Royal William.
  14. I love the cabin Augie, the deck planking looks good in your test piece.
  15. Thanks very much for your great comments chaps, they mean a lot and encourage me when things get difficult.
  16. Top rails on time for paint.Samson posts took some glueing,if someone sneezed they fell off.Well and truly into the deck work now my favourite part.
  17. Same here maybe they are long lost sisters.
