Still debating whether to attempt weathering the whole ship or going with a clean "museum style" build... what do you guys think would be better? Stay clean those decks are just to nice.

Like the looks of the ship along with the colors kinda of reminds me of WWI German A/C colorful.The shop looks good to But abit to clean I try with mine but it's a cluster. The office area/modeling room is 7X16 and the wood shop is 22X16 not big enough they never are. Kevin

I think she is coming out quite Nice after the retouches.The complaints about acrylics may be founded but I use alcohol if I think the model has gotten dirty from oils/sanding dries in minutes and sterile screw the gloves experience but I do use enamels.Acrylics if you do not clean your gun quickly will harden up fast. I have left mine with paint in it and came back hours later and it cleaned just fine with enamels.Milk! that's the consistency of your mix and I spray alot at from 10-20psi when doing small parts and small areas just to control the spray using a Badger Renegade Airbrush and use higher pressure for bigger areas.I hope that helps and yes I know of guys who use higher pressure than 30psi with acrylics and do beautiful work gun/talent/years.Keep at it it has the looks of a good build coming about Kevin

Ron that is an interesting boat you have going there and I like how you are using the computer to help solve some issues.I have to agree a single action brush usually can cover more area than alot of the duels since they are setup for fine painting.I just in the last year damaged my Badger 150 after 20years of diligent work still have the Badger Renegade.keep up the good work I have you set to "Notify" Kevin

Excellent Build!! I went through it and yes I like the new phone could see the shading much easier and so subtle I am with you less is better in most cases.The info about the shading and the layers I started thinking I had seen some of your work on another site ya'll live in the same neck of the woods though I think he is in Norway(?) One of the Mod as about another project on the side I have or thought about 50% probably more like 30-35% the Eugen.I thought I drop a few of my other WWII ships while I was there in the cabinet.

A small update is in order.I have been playing with the mast of late and experimenting with and enamel base then using a mixture of of a not quite golden brown and umber in oils to simulate the wood effect.The next step is to go over the oils with a clear acrylic clear mixture of red and yellow thinned and airbrushed on to your taste the pictures do not do it justice but they do look a bit like wood.The bowsprit just came out to dark but I leaving it as such since all pieces did not come from the same tree or type I would think.The rings on the mast were all taped off ( @#% ) and painted with MM Metalizer Gun color and sealed with a clear.

Talking about the wedge itself ? Sounds like they are not there on the real ones they are used to glue the guns to the deck instead of gluing the wheels less mess and what mess is hidden.I really like that green upstairs what color for the cannon carriages?

I work with wood a bit boxes and furniture a little and can attest to Tite bond.When I built the grates for the America I put a touch with a toothpick and by the time the first was glued it was already setting sanded 15 minutes later for scale effect. Kevin

Now were I am at as of now.The blocks from HISmodel and I made the grates for the hatch looks much better than the plastic in the frame and the deck has two coats of semi-gloss water base clear I like for indoor furniture.The mast I tried something we use on WWI propellers to simulate a wood grain using oils not enough grain effect came through then I sprayed over it with a orange acrylic clear diluted with yellow to try and highlight and give depth(still need more practice at that).The rings will be taped off and sprayed black or burnt iron and can anyone answer about the metal on the mast heads black?

I have been by the sail bug of late and nostalgia and ventured back to my youth when I made just about all of Revell sailing ships.So I picked up the USS America simple get my feet wet again with the rigging and such.I p/u from HISmodel the wooden deck and block/pulleys which the pulleys will be a new venture for me I have dealt with wood decks on the Eugen.I have the hull,decks and the mast are just about finished in painting just a little bit more.Russ lives like three houses down and says the black iron on the rudder goes so that be fixed and I went with 16' planks right or not I don't know but I mark them lined the ends and nail.I have seen alot of these decks with one nail hole ? call it my personnel interpretation Kevin

Ambitious first project in 30yrs but I like what I see.The fact that you rolled forward on a complicated project and looking at few other builds is giving me confidence to proceed with my Pride of Baltimore.Thks for motivation. Kevin
