Work continues the the Cross Section, but just to say I've walked away from it for a few months as I was trying to figure a way of doing those scroll moulding, a method I couldn't get, as much as good folk suggested methods I wasn't happy with the result.

So while I have this week off I decided to carry on and complete the outside of the hull, I've already scratch build the ladders/steps, re made the Fenders, basically taken everything off what Id had originally done and sanded the paint off.. didn't like the gloss effect on the paint. Thanks to again some good folk around here have tried a different method of painting and getting rid of the gloss effect.

The problem Ive had is I want it perfect for me, I look at other who seem to find it very easy to come up with a perfect result first time, maybe they done a ship or 2 before, for me..nope, first one, I dont want to have spent this much money and make a mess, BUT..I decided it's taking over the whole idea of why I love model making, so with that in mind Ive managed to get my foot back in the door and have completed the scrool moulding MY WAY   :D  at least a way Im happy to live with.

Pictures will be posted later today, painting has started, looks better..no looks good. So there we go, I continue to make this model and not to try to make the real thing, lets say my interpretation of HMS Victory Cross Section.

As promised some nice piccy's   :D

The new mouldings and scroll..finally, im happy with it

I used for the first time some 'Blacken it', seems to work ok but they came out a little grey rather than black, not a problem.

Nice as Coppering the hull is, BUT I want more (no surprise there) but seriously I know in my mind exactly how I want this Cross Section to look, and the 2 pictures below show what direction I want to go.

Nice work Colin,

Taking a break while you thought it through has payed off for you. It's all looking terrific!

Very nicely done, Colin.  What did you end up using for the scroll work? I can't tell from the pictures and I may have missed your saying in the text.

the yellow orca has a nice deep colour to it - is it 3 coats?

Posted

Thanks grant, yeah walking away for a while really does help.

Mark, I simply cut 3 different sizes of dowl and sanded each down so as not to have them too far out, not historic but Im happy with it.

Kevin, yeah the Yellow does look nice, I wanted to keep the wood showing through so I watered the paint down and added  small amounts of talc to prevent it from becoming too shiny, so only 2 light coats, I didn't want to over do the paint.

Hello Colin,

I have been silently following your build. Its time to say something. So beautiful, the level, and quality of detail is superlative. Love the razor blade "tool" I may try something like that-great idea. Thanks for posting so many pics.....This will be an amazing cross section.

Finally managed to finish the outside of the hull, took some time and had a few issues but I think I can now continue with the inside.

The lid with only one thread needs attention at some point, the supplied part didnt have the hole to feed the thread through.

Hi Colin.

  Very Nice work.

I like the idea of having the Orlop being removable while working on it :)

I also like the extra beams..Adds much more detail and looks just right.

Still folowing this build as I have just started mine.

Colin,

This is a gorgeous Build and you are doing terrific. I love the vast amount of pictures that you publish.

How much I wish such a kit would be made available in the USA.... I would jump on it. The existing cross-sections at 1/96 scale are too small to present much interest, but 1/72 scale for the Victory is starting to be a nice model.

Please keep us entertained and ....drooling (for me).

Thanks

Yves
