so are your waterways 3/32 or 6/32?   this must mean that your going to plank the deck with normal planking {1.5 mm}   I've always thought that the waterways should taper down to the scuppers.

with the Bluenose I have,  dealing with the damage it received in shipping,  the bulwark posts had to be removed.  I will need to make scratch ones before I go any further.   I think it's also neat that your not using a deck platform,  as supplied in most kits......your going to plank over the frame.   your progress looks really nice :)

Popeye,

The instructions and plans are referring to use two strakes 3/32" x 3/32", so when I looked at the real Bluenose (II) they only had one plank but wide, so that is what I went with.

Further pictures will show the difference.

The single plank has the measurement 6/32" x 3/32".

I understand this can be confusing of what I am trying to show and explain.

Planking is on the way.

The provided material is not long enough, which is stated in practicum and instruction manual.

There-fore we have to use another strip to create the remaining length of the strake.

Instead of using a straight cut of the plank where the bulkhead is located I chamfered the connecting planks for more contact surface.

After sanding it's hard to tell where the joint is located.

I truly enjoy planking this lady, using the combination of titebond II and CA works great.

Both glues has a short setting time, specially the CA welding the plank to the bulkhead while the Titebond seals up.

So far I don't think I haven't made any building error.

Planking  will continue.

Now I have reached a critical point when it comes to planking of the stern.

It's more important to get the planks even. So doing two planks at the same time and making sure they are tapered properly.

This is just the beginning,  some trimming is necessary for a clean connection and glueing.

Figuring out how to get the planks meet up centerline I took  step backward and thought

"wait a minute, this what I am to do has been posted before"

Using a fine needle and sewing thread to get my centerline.

I should had done this before as I saw how "bad off line" I was with the planking.

Well, building is a learning experience and one will improve and get better by it.

Hopefully I can recover and get the remaining planks more center butted.

Should had thought of this before, I like the "plumbing line" feature.

Now if only I could take pictures that are perfect, so the inserted red line would line up right.:default_wallbash:

Looking good! Using string looks like it should work. Are you sure that the joints formed a straight line instead of the zig-zag pattern planks make when they meet? It would seem that a straight line might be prone to rot? Just my two cents, though I'm not sure if it's accurate.

Elijah,

Thank you for your thought, I appreciate all inputs.

I didn't know whether to go a zig-zag or straight line.

The instructions nor the practicum of Bobs didn't say which way to go.

However going straight was easier.

Besides it all will be painted, so it won't matter.

I have had plenty of time today with my lady so this is the progress so far.

To me there are still a lot of imperfection of the hull before any primer or paint can be added.

I have turned my attention to the other side, and working on the fills between the bulkhead.

The instructions is showing three planks for the waterway, I have chosen two, one wider for the inside of the bulkhead and a fillers between.

Lots of cutting and trimming, but I think this will be very nice once done.

Sadly all this will be painted.

Sometimes I take painting to be a blessing in disguise.  You don't have to be perfect, you can add fill, then once sanded you paint over all the imperfections hiding them forever.  In my case, I'm glad the waterways will be painted.  I haven't done as nice a job as you have.  I look forward to following along with this build.

All the waterways are done, hull has been "putted" and sanded.

There was a lot of sanding, but the outcome was pleasing to my eye.

The hull has gotten one layer of Wipe-On-Poly.

Now drying in the sun.

Perfect day for outdoor work such as sanding and wipe on.20170729_132120.thumb.jpg.2fe8542d54d9ec7098871056844ec705.jpg20170729_131953.thumb.jpg.5b69932791eb5e97e3143643b7084084.jpg

Once this layer is dry, more putty and sanding for final finish before painting.
