That would be one way of getting a good set of deck and rigging photos Andy.

I'll add a redundant but much deserved "wow!" and "thanks!"  It is amazing what you've accomplished with the Germania Nova and very generous of you to document it so thoroughly for the rest of us.

In due course I may be putting out a plea to MSW members for any photographs they may have.

I may have mentioned it before, but I'd bet Jeff Rutherford of Richmond, CA, the fellow whose boatshop restored Cangarda, would have a lot of photographs taken during her rebuild. (His phone: (510) 233-5441)

I have made contact with Jeff who has been very helpful, I just don't want to push my luck by placing too big a demanding of his resources.

I bet Jeff and Bob McNeil, Cangarda's owner, would be thrilled to see you build a model of her. Have they seen your Germania? It don't get much better than that!

Such a beautiful model Keith and I have enjoyed every posting from the beginning. Thanks for the extra effort of sharing your process and techniques.  I’m looking forward to the final photos and anxiously awaiting your next project.

Keith,

Cangarda is in Front Street Ship yard yard, here in Belfast Maine, which is about a mile from my house.  My son n law captain’s several boats that are stored there for the winter.  I can probably get photos if you need them.

I don’t know if she has been wrapped, probably not, if she is stored inside.  I can certainly find out.

Thank you - very much appreciated - that would be fantastic. It is a comprehensive set of photos looking down on the deck showing the attachment points for all the stays / blocks plus the deck planking detailing around the deck houses / skylights etc,  that I need. It is going to be a a year or more before I get to that part of the build so no need to rush out with the camera.

Best regards,

Keith

Bob, I sent a few shots of Germania to Jeff Rutherford when I asked for some information and I promised to send him the link to the build log once I started it. I haven't made contact with Mr McNeil. I am not sure that he would be interested in seeing a model when he owns the real thing - lucky man.

I really need to get on with the photos before this log morphs into a Cangarda build log.

Here are a few pre cleaning photos to get the build log back on track before I do the cleaning.

Actually, in my experience, the number one most likely purchaser of a fine yacht model is going to be the prototype's owner. Yes, they have the real thing, but who doesn't enjoy admiring the beauty of their own yacht, whether it be a model or the real thing. Besides, having a great model of your yacht on display in your office or home is an understated way to make a "casual" statement of great wealth. That said, there are reportedly a number of models of Cangara extant, some at Fulford Place National Historic, the original owners' estate in Ontario, so maybe he's already got one.

Like Roger, I thought I remembered a model in the sales photos in the link Tom posted but after carefully going through them I don't see a model. I seem to remember a model so clearly I thought maybe it was another yacht so I combed through photos and the only thing close to a model I came across was the inlaid table in Eva.

 Damn, I hate getting old.

Not The dining area that Keith Black posted above.  In the same series of 81 pictures that Tom posted there are several photos of a classic formal dining room; long table, ready to host Royalty.  A couple of tables are taken looking down the long axis of the table.  Sorry, my MSW expertise does not include dragging photos from one post to another.  If you look very carefully there is what appears to be a glass cased model on a self behind the table.

Roger - it is highly probable that your eyesight is better than mine as I need my cataracts done. Below are the 4 shots showing the internals of the main deck house. These are the only ones which show the dining table. What I think I see is a mirror behind a silver cup and above this a cabinet that may contain glassware. Are these the ones where you see a model? Screenshot2023-02-25at18_49_50.png.e5664d4a921b305c2b6ec9e05c367ee9.pngScreenshot2023-02-25at18_50_17.thumb.png.a80ce67ec6a3cd6a490c5120e3dbde88.pngScreenshot2023-02-25at18_50_30.thumb.png.460a69056831361e1257cc1749325780.png
