Greetings from North Yorkshire, England

Recommended Posts

Hello Gentlemen,

My name is Neil Scarbro Aka Niallmhor , I live in the Riding of North Yorkshire, England. Been a modeller since I was a nipper , but only built.maritime subjects when I was serving in Germany with HM Forces . Now I am retired , with time on my hands ( unless our lass finds me something to do) I'm going to get back into maritime models . I'm building the USS United States (1812) 1/96  version having built the USS Constitution in Gutersloh, Germany, my room looked like a shipyard with Aircraft Carriers,  Distant water Trawlers , USS Constitution, Cutty Sark and the odd ship in a bottle. If you are wondering why I built ships while been in the military I originally came from Kingston upon Hull , a City on the River Humber East Yorkshire so it was only natural to build ships, and been a Military Driving Instructor it helped me to relax after a busy day . The photo is what I used to teach people to drive

Hi Neil, old Yorkshire lad by the sounds of it, using the " Ridings" titles. I'm from the NE coast shipbuilding area which is probably where I get my love of maritime and my Grandfather was a Lloyd's Registered Surveyor of shipping. Like you I'm ex squaddie but after a bit ill health I find it relaxing going back to modeling plank on frame. By the way my Mam was born in Hull.

Cheers

Mike

Thank you Gentlemen for your very warm welcome, by the way what mob where you in Mike and what's the plank on frame you're building? That's something I've never had a go at , you never know I may try one day.

Hi Neil,

Para Reg mate.

I am making my first plank on frame model boat, the "Marie - Jeanne" French Tuna fishing boat which has really nice lines with sails, which is why I chose it. Taking it easy and using other people's build projects from the forum. It's coming on good and using my own skills which I've worked out myself from a previous boat build from scratch using my own plans.

I must say this is a very relaxing hobby and takes me back to my own childhood making airfix planes (spitfire being my first). Pity today's kids don't follow on doing this as it gives you a good grounding in practical skills.

Cheers

Mike

Nice "car" ;).  Looks like something from the CVR (T) family.
Was this specially designed to give driving lessons. Or is this a Sultan command vehicle?

Hi Patrick,

You are right it's a Sultan Command post vehicle of the CVR (T) family, as for a specialist vehicle for Driver Training no such luck ! You used what was available at the time , been a Sultan , 432 or M109A2 you could only teach so much in a classroom the rest had to be hands on .

By M109A2, are you referring to the Paladin?

Hi Backer,

Very nice collection of vehicles you have there, I myself tend to work on something a little bigger more like 1/1 scale ( please see photo ) .

Grandpa Phil , the Paladin is a M109A6 , I taught the guys to drive a M109A2 , if you where to place them side by side you would see the difference.

  • 2 months later...

Wallace..see you avatar/ picture cropping uo every now and then..

Would that be a 578 you rode or 434?

If you were in 13 years then you would have ridden both.

I was a gun fitter!!!!

Pete ( the one that fudged up Bluenose, built two Brandos and trying again to get HMS Beagle in a bottle.

(This must be a REME retirement home.

I know our vms would not renew a pack unless a crate of Herfies were offered or the thing just happened to vor at a pub!!!!

Those were the days )

Back to boats.
