Your workmanship is fantastic!  One thing that looks rather odd is that you show belaying pins even though they were not introduced until about 1745, more than fifty years after she burned in Cherbourg.

See picture below.   Soleil Royal would not have had belaying pins.  I am sure this is not your mistake, but rather the kit maker.  DeAgostini must not have done very much research to produce such a big mistake.

Beautiful models!  I can't imagine having the energy to build two at once! 😲

 

In the interest of when (if) I get to my Heller SR build, how did they tie off ropes before belaying pins?  One cannot tie a giant knot around say a railing by passing many fathoms of line all around it; how did they ensure rapid release when needed? Just curious.

I agree with your own comment that it is a poor excuse. 😀       While your model is pretty, looking at your photos there is very little in the details that resembles a real ship which is typical of DeAgostini kits.  In the end if you like it that is what is most important.

Wydaje się, że ze wszystkich kolekcji Soleil Royal ta DeAgostini jest najbardziej zbliżona do eksponatu z muzeum - Le Soleil Royal - 1668 (Jean-Baptiste Tanneron).

The issue of belaying pins is somewhat controversial.  Lees' book on masting and rigging focuses on English square-rigged ships.  There are contemporary paintings showing some Dutch ships with them. However, I believe that Lees is accurate.  Take your choice.

 

You are doing a marvelous job!  I prefer the normally painted version.

Very nice!  I find your topmast cross-trees more convincing than Heller's strange interpretation which has the masts between the 1st and 2nd cross-trees and the 3rd dangling out way in back of the masts.
