a lot of my work has been done using a decal maker. one visible draw back to it has been a transparency issue, but there is an update for it that is supposed to cure this problem. another aspect that I've seen, is in sizing down a particular decal.......some details disappear. even with photo shop, some of the minute details will get lost.....but it won't prevent you from making a very nice copy :)

I had made up a few copies of the decals {minus the waterline markers}.......but I sent them off to another fellow a while ago. he was doing the Revell kit - 1:96 {this is what made me buy the decal program in the first place

there are other sites on the web where the roman numerals can be found.....Dr. Dafi has some in photo etch, that may be of interest to you. the decals are pictures that I scanned and imported into the decal maker. then they are sized to the actual size of the decal sheet. as all knows....ink jet printers cannot print white, but with a little experimentation, some success can be achieved. another thing that can't be done totally, is metallic colors......gold looks like gold, but doesn't have the shimmer. if you look at my Cutty build.....you can see this........they were made from the decal maker.

Denis. thank you for advice. I have seen your blogs and topics, and this is great source of inspiration and ideas.

And there is (to me) some kind of overload of different sources of information VS lack of time/dedication, spiced with curiosity, impatience and attacks of creativity ... I think this is possible to chose way with weeks of exploration and research for any single move. That way lead to 10-15-20 years for one single model, maybe significant less if you are in this hobby couple of decades and have skills and experience to work fast precise and correct without mistakes.

And, creativity by itself demand some results to be seen ... and I try to balance between "do my best" and "I wanna play"

Definitely, great fun and joy, and that is the point

All your ideas and advices, also critics are more than wellcome

Great looking copper, Nenad!  (and in such a reasonable time frame;  I think you Photoshopped out the helping elves in your pictures).

Given that you are about 5700 miles away from me, and the speed of sound in dry air is roughly 342 m/s,  I'll be listening for your yell about 7.5 hours from your plating completion.... :D

Bob, as I see, we can attach *.mp3 files to posts, so, if you really want to listen this, I`ll be glad to attach my yell just at moment when I finish hull   :)

Nenad;  you've gotten me doing the hmmmm... thing again. Is my 0.5mm thick walnut veneer thin enough to pass through my printer, taped to a piece of paper?

Yes, It was...  first of (many, I'm sure) tests...

I passed this panel through with a yellow color;  when it came out, I couldn't see anything.  Holding it very close to the light, there was the lightest hint of the lettering.  I believe the wood absorbed all the colored ink.   I have a test panel coated with gloss polyurethane that I'll try with tomorrow.

You are right, David. I hope rain will stop and let me enter in home yard. BBQ is not fun when it rains (I tried couple of times).

Thx Mark, it lasts too long. Let's go on something more creative with less pieces. BTW I saw your successful and brave attack to frames with Dremel. Was this something as "edge of patience?"

Thank you everybody for likes and nice and friendly words that encourage me to try to do my best in next moves

Next is  mat and light coloring of cooper, but I need some rest ( not even look at this shinny million pieces a while)

So, experiment time comes, and I try to do some tests for future stern decoration

Test No 1

First I try with regular copy paper 80g, but it do not works. To much soft and weak , and fiber structure do not allow to cut precise

Then I try with tracing paper with idea to print with laser printer on this, to cut as precise it can be around writing, and to color with gold

Little better, but relief is not present as I want, and whole thing seem messy, and look like I was drawing, not making ornament

Here is result

post-4738-0-06942700-1407089363_thumb.jpg

No, thank you. Next test please...

Test No 2

This test is realization of one of my earlier idea - to use thin but strong yarn used to crochet

And here is testing step by step

post-4738-0-06708000-1407089541_thumb.jpg

post-4738-0-32963800-1407089566_thumb.jpg

post-4738-0-16134400-1407089586_thumb.jpg

post-4738-0-65660300-1407089517_thumb.jpg

Thicker is full diameter of string, thinner is frayed string

I draw with felt pen pattern on bottom, and write my name, thinking : As I am able to glue string along lines, there will not be problem

Thicker string did not make any problems

Thinner ... OMG, nearly two long hours I was making this simple pattern above. That thin string, on such a scale, shows performances you do not expect - elastic, strong, flexible ... simply, did not listen to me. And never enough light !!!

And i learned and concluded something

If I want to make whole thing in 3D with visible relief, ornament parts must have a bit bigger depth than in scale. Upper pattern ( my name) has relief, but it is not just visible enough, and from distance, look simply drawn

Colors are chosen - black for base, and yellow for contrast ( in final state, there will be gold color)

Next experiment will be with thin cooper wire from multicore power cord or some old wire from some old current transformer

But, after two hours of stare through magnifier and working with little paintbrush on picture above, that was enough for today
