I cheated on mine by printing the panels, but then again, I don't expect them to be readily seen. Yours however, are wonderful and will probably be more visible. Well done!

Even with machines, I can't produce as quickly as you.  If doesn't help that my shipyard has been without power for nearly a week..

As always, your workmanship and productivity impress.

Thank you Nils, I haven't decided yet whether to add the rigging or not but I'll keep building as if I will.

Mustafa,

I'm beginning the process of planking the spar deck, and am researching how other builders have tackled this.  I took note of your methodology on planking the gun deck, where you cut planks short instead of cutting long strips and scribing in butt joints.  (I saw the reference marks on your carrier deck for the butt joints.)  However, I did notice that you did not taper the planks there.

What's your plan for the spar deck?  Will you be tapering the planks as you work your way aft?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Peter.

Since I will plank the spar deck to a minimum (only the center of the ship and possibly the areas under the guns) there will be no need to taper the planks. But if I were to completely cover the spar deck, I would taper the planks at the aft because it would be more realistic and look better.

Wow, that's an interesting approach.  I was wondering why you went to so much detail on the gun deck if most of it would be hidden by the spar deck. Now I understand. You're going to Showcase your work on the gun deck, and I can't wait to see that. Thanks

I can't work much these days because my shipyard is very hot in the summer months and I don't have access to cooling. I think this situation will continue until September. I don't want you to think that I've given up on building the model.

I never for one moment thought that you would put this project to rest. I remember that you took a break last summer as well. Enjoy your summer and stay cool.

What type wood did you use to build the hull?

james

I used plywood for the bulkheads and bulkhead former and used basswood for the planking. I covered below the waterline with self adhesive copper foil. In addition, the use of hornbeam and pear wood in the details on the decks.

After a long summer break, I returned to my shipyard. I spend summers at my house in Alanya district of Antalya, a world-renowned holiday destination frequently visited by foreign tourists. On maps, it is located in the south of Turkey on the Mediterranean coast. I had wonderful days with my children and grandchildren and regained my energy.

Now it's time to work. I completed the walls of the Commodore cabin. Now I will start making the furniture in the cabin.

Welcome back, Mustafa!  Antalya sounds magnificent! And I looked at some information online, beautiful beaches and scenery, lots of outdoors stuff to do, an aquarium, and some remarkable history.  So glad you enjoyed your time with your children and grandchildren.  I fully understand and appreciate those times with mine, as well.  Makes us full again, doesn't it?

OK, now... GET TO WORK!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Looking forward to seeing your next Constitution project. 👍

Congrats on completing this stage, Mustafa!  Those beams are so sharp-looking.  I am impressed with their consistency from fore to aft. Great detail!

Dear Jon, your build log and your work have been an inspiration to me since I started this model. Thank you again for this. My advantages are that I make everything from scratch and have enough materials and tools.

My summer is nearing its conclusion. But I've been suffering from analysis paralysis, and difficulties in constructing the windows for the galleries of my Constitution. I'm on my fourth iteration for the starboard side Gallery windows and I'm still not happy with the results.

I've actually been thinking about using my proxxon Mill to try to fabricate the windows. If I can figure a way to angle the Vise at the right angle, your solution for this commode may solve at least the gallery window issue for me.

Gluing the window frames onto the plexiglass, is clouding and messing up the glass itself. I'm just not happy with this.

I will try Mustafa's technique to construct complete window frames.  Then I could hollow out the space behind and get closer to the traditional look.
