I have just finished my Bismarck build which inspired me to build a bigger Arado 196 that was on her

The cockpit which taking tips and ideas from a chap named Mal who is building a superb quality model of this..

Floats, a coat of silver then German RM02 green under coat. Once top coated ill weather parts down to expose the lower levels 

 

The only modified bits are a few extra holes drilled ready for later and an eyelet on the nose also for later. The wires at the back were for hanging during spraying

Floats finished..added tie down rings and steering for the rudder.. No way us ship builders would stick a rudder on something with out steering controls lol 😆 The finish for the whole aircraft is 'seen a lot of activity ' weathered look

Scratch built the hydrolic lines that go to the floats that operate the rudder and added more tie down rings 

 

Painted up..now to concentrate on the fuselage

Started on the flying surfaces , first re do the trim tabs, next i will do the same but larger on the rudder,elevator etc

 

a bit of filing,a lick of paint should look 👍

Time to start painting the fuselage 

 

First some silver on where I want to rub back or chip

Then a red dope colour where there's fabric and RM02 grey/green where there is metal. Only  roughly done as it's going to get it's proper colours over all of it. Should make a great effect when I apply the wearing/weathering

Just a close up,I'm quite happy as I can tell what is metal and what is fabric, some nice contrast in the panels and elevator ribs just showing

The picture does make the blue look slightly darker

Well it's sprayed! The two tone splinter pattern is very subtle.  It will need some touching up around the cockpit and some other small bits..The white band is far to bright so I'll knock that back with the weathering

I missed the scale, 1/48?

I have been looking, just looking, at thr Revell 1/32 version, re-released this year.

 

I'll be interested to see the final result.

Yes it's 1/32. Not sure if it is the new release dont think so. But the quality is super,I know I have changed bits but even a straight out of the box build it is very detailed. It was £35 from my local model shop..good value I thought 

 

The last time I made a proper plane was the later 1970s 😆

All 'stickered' up. Each foot step was 3 separate decals so I had to apply some wear and chipping before applying them.

At last the 3 sub assemblies come together..next canopy (apparently a nightmare to do on this kit) rear gun and radio aerials..

Thank you all for your many likes and Wows..I'm really enjoying the change from my Ships. It is going to sit so well along side the Bismarck that inspired this build.
