Hello kiwi Ron.

My AL Endeavor beat me up 20 odd years ago. It is the parts bin now.  But I will have another go at some stage. But won't go the AL way.

Good luck.

Hi Ron

a very impressive Job that you have done with the masts and  yards. I will start with the deck furniture soon. Did you use a machine for tapering the Yards?

Looking good, Ron.  All this prep work will pay off handsomely as you hang the yards.

Hi Ron,

will you use the sails too? I sure want but never done this before. So I am very excited to watch someone doing this probably nerve-racking job. I am sure the instruction will help quite good as they seem to be very complete and clear. But I am not a tailor - and needles are not my world :)

So I am really curious about to see you working on the sails.

Cheerio from Germany - the fall is coming now, my favorite time to sit in teh shipyard and hear the storms outside...

Onto the shrouds,i used .25 caldercraft thread to connect the deadeyes as the 0.15 occre thread is very hairy.I also changed the long boat tie down thread.

Hi Ron

That is surprising that the wax did not work.

I pulled my rope through the wax about 4-5 times each side ie pull it through then reverse the rope and pull through again 4-5 times each side.

Then pulled the rope through my fingers to set the rope in the wax.

Hi Denis, Ron...

I also tried wax on the Occre stuff - and made the same expierence as Ron: The thread was looking bad. Maybe for  fixing the blocks etc it is ok, but not for shrouds, stays, backstays etc or for the running rigging. I purchased thread from a manufacturer here who uses polyester for the thick stays and very good Cotton ropes for the shrouds. For the running rigging I will use Corel thread and also some special thin stuff from that manufacturer - .15mm.

I think Occre could do a better Job with high-quality thraed as the kits are not always a "Special offer"... :) I like to get good stuff für good money...

I did not yet take a look  at the thread included with my Friedrich Wilhelm zu Pferde by Euro Model... Hope it will be ok so far.

The 0.15 thread needs to go straight into the rubbish.I used 1mm black thread for the shrouds instead of their brown 0.8 it saves dying or painting the shrouds.Last time I painted shrouds I had flecks of paint across the deck I had a lot of trouble removing.Just ordered more black and raw thread 0.25mm,that will keep me going until I get further along.

Hi Ron,

Going well I see.

Oh man, the rigging is going to be a tough one to tackle for me.

Seeing what you and the others are doing, going to be a challenge.

I have spent some time already looking into the rigging.

Was definitely going to go black on the standing rig.

Tan on the running.
