Your gunport covers are looking good so far. Very well done.

Unfortunately, during the last few weeks I had very little time for working on my Syren. Too much focus on business and competing projects with higher priorities . . .  :(

Nevertheless, here is a little update. The lids of all open gun ports on both sides are in place, sheaves and fenders are done, and work is progressing on the bridle ports.

Thank you all for your kind compliments! Your feedback is very much appreciated! And ZyXuz hit the nail on the head: it sometimes is pretty tough to have the model in front of me and not being able to work on it . . .  :)

Thank you, Rod! When I had finished with the little ring bolts, I was quite happy that I made them. However, when I tried to produce them, it was good that my wife did not hear me because I was constantly cursing these tiny things jumping away at the slightest touch, sticking to the tweezers, and in general defying gravity completely   :)

I found a few hours to finish the bridle ports and one of the rear gun ports. I hope that with coming fall and winter I can shift more time to ship modeling again  . . .   :)

The gun port lids were done following Chuck’s instructions. The photo etched hinges for the bridle ports supplied in the kit were not quite as long as they were shown on Chuck’s plans, so I made my own.

Thank you, Ferit!  In hind side I probably could have saved me some work by framing the gun ports a little differently . . .

Very good work on the gunport covers. They look just like Chuck's prototype. :)

Hi Gahm, your Syren is looking excellent, one of the finest in the fleet. I really liked your work on your gun port rings. And your cannons are fantastic. Did you use the supplied castings or did you use a different source?

Thank you, Richard! For the cannons I modified gun barrels from Caldercraft. I can't remember, I either used the 9lb or the 18lb guns (scale 1:64), whichever were closer to the dimensions in Chuck's plan. Actually one of them fitted the dimensions quite well. But you may also look at the gun barrels which you can get from Chuck (see Dirk Dubz's build log). They probably are an even better fit. I am still debating whether I ultimately switch to them myself . . .

I finished the gun port lids and mounted some of the cleats needed to belay the lines operating the upper lids (images 2 – 6). Before using the cleats provided by the kit I cleaned them up, added pins, and reduced the size of their feet (image 1).
