Thanks David.
Well after the advise on the plastic spars I had a go at the bowsprit.

First removed the plastic bowsprit ends and added a wood one, have a brass boom for the top half later.

DSCF4942_zpsd98fd210.jpg
With wood inplace and much stronger me thinks.
DSCF4944_zps350fc8bf.jpg
Also changed the main mast top spar and added wood and brass final.

DSCF4946_zps1b5d4bbd.jpg
Waiting on Cornwall model boats for some more wood.

One of the good things about replacing spars is you have the shape already just duplicate it.

Looking good and wood defo better than plastic- i built the zvezda "black pearl" for my daughter a couple of years ago (they called it black swan with a diff figurehead) and replaced all the masts and yards with wooden ones.

Thanks David and Keith.

Yes you right David, its much easier when you have the part to copy, as long as the part you are copying is correct :).
So far it has been so.

Yep Keith this is turning out very Interesting, in the nick of time to, was starting on the spars etc as a variation to the build.

Well been busy with more to this ship.
Working on the forecastle, opened up the doors and one for'd hatch.
006_zpsa93f2cbc.jpg
First coat sprayed with Admil French blue paint.
Using dafi's etch for the gun hatchs, made two more for the bow( sickbay) that I have opened.
DSCF4676_zpsfbfd4375.jpg
DSCF4633_zps795812a6.jpg.
Again working on the same principle with double sided tape to hold the gun hatch's iplace and number them.
DSCF4663_zpsb0bda3c1.jpg
Added eye bolts and hinge's from Dafi's etch set for this ship.

Also at this time working on the boats, the larger barge is not with the kit, so have used the 1/96 USS Constitution but have to extend the hull. did this again copying what others have done to get the right length.
DSCF4690_zpsdfaa830c.jpg
Once dry will sand down.
DSCF4691_zps6a74acfb.jpg
Used this plastic putty to fill any gaps.
DSCF4716_zpsa77fd9a3.jpg

More soon methinks.

Next its back to the wood instead of plastic.
This time the boom gaff.

DSCF4948_zps599155a9.jpg
Kept the plastic mast end as it will be strong enuff with a brass pin holding both the plastic and wood.

DSCF4950_zpsea8aec80.jpg
The end tip I added a brass ring.
DSCF4951_zps6fe9952f.jpg
Next its a test fit of the middle deck, this comes in two parts witch will make it easier to file the outer ends to fit and line up with the masts/capstans and grating.

Thanks shipmates.

Yep flying is the word, just enjoying this build so much, with the use of wood has changed the whole concept of this build.

Thought only of plastic/Resin and brass, now wood.

Have managed to change all spars to wood or brass, this should make all stronger.

Thank E kindly dragzz  :D

Some more progress with the lower deck buttoned up.

One other thing I have been playing around with is the port hatch ropes.

Instead of drilling lots of holes, I hope to attach with plastic to the hull.
Experimenting.

Some more pictures of the middle deck now.
Added the deck and yes the planking is wrong but did it the same time as the lower deck, Next deck will have the right space's.
Added deck hatch's steps to lower deck and capstans, main and jeer.

DSCF4725_zps0bc1334b.jpg
Also at this time the stern rear windows, this so all will sit right.
Still to finish the crown, leaving it till later so as no damage comes to it.

Right well checking the number of ladders needed and found I was a few short, Heller had sent me some replacements  but still not enuff.

So it was to wood I turned again.
DSCF4743_zpsbbf029e9.jpg
Used Heller ladder as a template.
DSCF4744_zps278984c6.jpg
The finished article's
DSCF4747_zps4fe4d601.jpg
Used life color paints for this job, three in all.

Next came the buildings for this deck, the gallery, brody stove, officers quarters and cover for the tiller, that could be lifted off in an emergency to add another tiller arm.
First though its the gallery.
I used some etch from my model railroad day's, when I built loco's etc.
Plastic and brass for the main structure and wood for the top of the bench.
Have books that show the gallery and this made it a lot easier.
DSCF4751_zps3a2acf57.jpg
At the top of the picture is the start of the officers quarter's, below the start of the gallery.
DSCF4754_zps87fcb899.jpg

DSCF4757_zpsf7a26909.jpg
Framed the outside with thin plastic strips(evergreen).
Made some pots, bottles etc for the top bench and lockers.
DSCF4761_zpsa679df75.jpg

DSCF4760_zps2082d89f.jpg
The officer figure is scratch built from one of the USS Constitution people, with a new hat and sword/belt.

More soon methinks.

Right the crunch time has come,  thanks to Daniel for sending me some pictures of this Body stove that made sense.

I took the plunge and had a go.
DSCF4784_zps1511b92a.jpg
First using plastic card I made a basic shape.
Then added varies Brass/plastic fittings to this structure.
DSCF4789_zps89246511.jpg
The main structure was Balsa and plastic, but for strength brass was needed at this scale.
DSCF4790_zps5e49cd66.jpg
Was quite pleased with the overall shape, but had to delve in my spare's  box's for items attaining to this build.
So a base was made and scribed/painted.
DSCF4792_zps1a1837af.jpg
Test fit with other parts of the ship.
DSCF4793_zps0014ed42.jpg
Then it was down to a spot of paint to bring all to life.
First a primer from a can.
DSCF4795_zps207f0786.jpg

DSCF4801_zps7a250c41.jpg
Last was a figure to show all was well.
DSCF4804_zps0cb2a4ce.jpg
Next will be all the detail to bring it to a conclusion.

That's incredible.  To be able to create that 3d item from simply looking at some pictures is amazing to me.  Fantastic job.

Now if I understand correctly, you are going to put all of this amazing work under a deck?  The mind boggles.

Always a pleasure to see the outcome of your endeavors :-)

Love it, Daniel

Thanks guy's.

Well Keith, did think about it, but in the end cut up some painted plastic rod of yellow/red and white and dropped into the pan :D.

As David say's Brian, it will be hidden once all the deck is completely detailed. but its the fun of doing it and there are pictures to show its there.

Again did think of LEDs/yellow to put under the deck by way of copper strips, but the detail would still not be seen very well even with the gunports open.

The lower gun ports will be closed for the 32 Pdrs, but most of the rest will be open, well that's the picture so far.

Thanks Daniel

Hi Jan.

Well Daniel has been the inspiration of this build with his work before I started.

But his has been more the research and showing much more detail than I.

There's no rush me thinks, just enjoy the build. What is the hardest is the research, Daniel has done most of that.

I am just moving a little further with less detail.

The point is that you have to enjoy it, no race is ness.

Thanks folks for all your inspiration and advice, it all helps and appreciated :)

Next its some of the boats I will be using on this build.
These are models that will need a lot of work.

Also working on the entrance ports, these are Dafi's resin one's.
Lovely detail they are, painted with life color base and brass .
