  1. Bug your doing a great job on the ship. Augie would be proud. Great job on the wheel. Greg H.
  2. Tom your ship is really looking great. Got a question for you. On post 261 you lowered the air port holes and I was just wondering if that was because they were close to the top of the Wales? I'm getting ready to drill the holes for my Connie and was just checking. Thanks a lot. Greg H.
  3. J I think the main difference in the two woods you mentioned would be the color. The pear wood is a little darker Greg H.
  4. I haven't got to that stage yet of putting the copper strips on. I would probably paint the red stripe first and extend it down a little so the copper plates would cover the bottom edge and make a nice clean line. Greg H.
  5. Charlene your ship is beautiful. It's amazing isn't it how fast time goes by when working on a ship? Thanks for sharing with us! Greg H.
  6. My goodness, that ship is beautiful! Fantastic job marsalv. Greg H.
  7. Phill that's a great idea you have there. Thanks for sharing with us. Greg H.
  8. Jaager I think you're right about the cypress. I'm a woodworker and I picked the cypress because I had some laying around. It looks nice after I mill it and even when I glue it in place, but during the drying process it moves at different rates so it becomes uneven. I think I will finish to the top of the wale with the cypress and then change wood. The ship will be painted but I still want the wood to look nice so it doesn't telegraph thru the paint. Thanks for your input. Greg H.
  9. Piet your doing an amazing job. You should make some videos of how you are doing those fantastic things you are doing on your ship. I'd pay to see it. Greg H.
  10. Thanks everyone for your comments. I read on one build log about using alcohol instead of water to wet wood for bending. I wonder if there would be shrinkage with the alcohol instead of water?
  11. Bruce I cut the strips on my Byrnes mini table saw and when I apply the strips they are nice and flat but something is happening during the drying process. I don't know if I'm using too much glue or maybe it's the wood itself. I laid the deck planking using the basswood that came with the kit and had no problem at all.
  12. I am applying cypress planking on my USS Constitution hull and it goes on nice and even but after the glue has dried the surface is very uneven. I am using Weldbond white glue. I don't know if the glue is causing the wood to swell unevenly or not. is anybody else having this problem? If so what have you done to correct it?
  13. On some of the build logs I've seen builders using a white creamy looking filler. I haven't seen it at the local Lowes or Home Depot. I will try at Hobby Lobby next.
