This is one of my concerns. Nice to see your progress. I am going to have to practice a ton before I start using the good stuff good to see you fix those things you are unsatisfied with. It will be worth it in the end

As a lover of small boats I thought this one was especially nice. I am glad there is a full build log to go along with the book. The book is very nice with lots of tips and techniques. This is a strong contender for a future build once I acquire some more skills. Or if Chuck wants to expand Syren's line of small boats........

Yup that's what I did. I just held it in my fingers and passed it through the hot air 2-3 times. Had to have been less than a second of total "heat" time

I figured what’s the worst that can happen. I display my ignorance for the entire world to see and everybody laughs at me. And then I pay Chuck for another set

It was just a carving out of the trim pieces very carefully to keep it tight and then I did sand very slightly the bottom edge of that plank so it would lay flatter. Also (probably going to make Chuck’s head explode) I very very very carefully heated the peace and the resin soften just a little bit and it was able to become flexible enough to glue closely. And by very carefully I mean probably less than one second total time. Also did the same with the rear mermaids and they seemed to come out fine

Looks like a nice job for your first planking. I grew up in Baltimore and was around for the building of this ship so I have always loved the PoB II (and also I)

Thanks Chuck. It was interesting using the powders for the first time and they did seem to work out pretty well. Thank you Dave. I like it. The pictures really show the dust but here is the attached transom area

Greetings from another Michael in Ohio! There is certainly lots to see and do here. If you are ‘relatively’ close our club meets the 3rd Saturday of the month at the Westerville public library just on north edge of Columbus. Unfortunately the library has been closed during the pandemic. We are still having zoom meetings though. Hopefully will be back to meeting in person soon. If you’re interested the link to the website is in my signature. Also you can direct message either myself or our club president @Feathermerchant for more info.

Great choice in kit. There are quite a few nice build logs of her in the kit section. When you are ready you can start one yourself and there is always plenty of people to answer any question you may have

Definitely great progress here. I only hope I can do as well when I start up my Cheerful

3d printing crew figures
MEDDO replied to highlanderburial's topic in 3D-Printing and Laser-Cutting.
Those look really nice especially if you were able to whip em up over the weekend. Properly scaled figures always add life to a static model and really help with visualizing the scale of the project -

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
