  1. This is one of my concerns. Nice to see your progress. I am going to have to practice a ton before I start using the good stuff good to see you fix those things you are unsatisfied with. It will be worth it in the end
  2. Welcome Kevin! Sherbourne is a great little ship
  3. That work look really nice. Welcome to MSW!
  4. I like the look of mica. You find it in craft stores and it is layered and you can easily peel off a bit and cut it with regular scissors. It looks brown when thick but the thin slices are very clear. It gives a very nice period glass effect something like
  5. As a lover of small boats I thought this one was especially nice. I am glad there is a full build log to go along with the book. The book is very nice with lots of tips and techniques. This is a strong contender for a future build once I acquire some more skills. Or if Chuck wants to expand Syren's line of small boats........
  6. Yup that's what I did. I just held it in my fingers and passed it through the hot air 2-3 times. Had to have been less than a second of total "heat" time
  7. I figured what’s the worst that can happen. I display my ignorance for the entire world to see and everybody laughs at me. And then I pay Chuck for another set
  8. It was just a carving out of the trim pieces very carefully to keep it tight and then I did sand very slightly the bottom edge of that plank so it would lay flatter. Also (probably going to make Chuck’s head explode) I very very very carefully heated the peace and the resin soften just a little bit and it was able to become flexible enough to glue closely. And by very carefully I mean probably less than one second total time. Also did the same with the rear mermaids and they seemed to come out fine
  9. Looks like a nice job for your first planking. I grew up in Baltimore and was around for the building of this ship so I have always loved the PoB II (and also I)
  10. Thanks Chuck. It was interesting using the powders for the first time and they did seem to work out pretty well. Thank you Dave. I like it. The pictures really show the dust but here is the attached transom area
  11. Greetings from another Michael in Ohio! There is certainly lots to see and do here. If you are ‘relatively’ close our club meets the 3rd Saturday of the month at the Westerville public library just on north edge of Columbus. Unfortunately the library has been closed during the pandemic. We are still having zoom meetings though. Hopefully will be back to meeting in person soon. If you’re interested the link to the website is in my signature. Also you can direct message either myself or our club president @Feathermerchant for more info.
  12. Great choice in kit. There are quite a few nice build logs of her in the kit section. When you are ready you can start one yourself and there is always plenty of people to answer any question you may have
  13. Definitely great progress here. I only hope I can do as well when I start up my Cheerful
  14. nice little mini kit. breaking up the build and doing these little projects in between the "main" progress seems like a good idea
  15. Those look really nice especially if you were able to whip em up over the weekend. Properly scaled figures always add life to a static model and really help with visualizing the scale of the project
