  1. Hi Floyd. I am glad to see you back at your workbench and working on your Medway Longboat. You are correct that the 1/8" x 1/16" laser cut strips are used to support the bottom edge of the windlass bracket. Chuck gives you four on the sheet, but you only need two, one for each side. I have attached a template for the windlass that I scanned from my plans. Make sure that the length of the template is 4 3/4" long as different printers may print at different scales than what the document was scanned at. As far as the wood needed to do another windlass, you will have to get it from Chuck or you could order it from Modeler's Sawmill, the Company that supplies Chuck with all of his wood needs. Here is a link to their website: http://www.modelerssawmill.com/milled-wood-strips.php As a side note, Chuck is on vacation until the middle of next week. You mentioned that you have finished all of your thwarts. I finished all of mine, but only glued in the thwart as needed during construction. I am farther along in the construction of my Longboat and I have only glued in the first, fourth (with mast hole) and the eighth thwart. I just glued in the first thwart last night as I have finished the bowsprit and the ironwork attached to it. The others are dry fitted and I have removed them so that I can get my fingers in the hull during rigging without the thwart being in the way. I will glue the others in when I finish the rigging. Not saying this is the right way, but it is working for me. I am looking forward to seeing pictures of your progress. Windlass Template.pdf
  2. Hello and welcome to Model Ship World. Mark has given you good advice on searching for a build log for your particular model. Check out this post regarding carving a bevel from the bearding line to the keel:
  3. I hope you will continue your build log. It is an excellent resource for current and future builders of this kit. You have done an excellent job on building this model and your build log is well documented.
  4. Wishing you the best Chris. I echo the sentiments of all the posts before me. You definitely have the support of the ship modeling community.
  5. Glad to have you back on board Steve. I am sure you have a lot of catching up to do.
  6. Lynn, You are doing an excellent job on building your Pram. Here is a link to the #15 saw blade. This company has given me good service and their shipping costs are very reasonable. https://www.hobbytown.com/15-saw-blade-exl20015/p-xuhzhcjqwqsbg4yz
  7. Hi Alex and welcome to Model Ship World. You are taking the right approach entering this hobby. Your work looks good and you made a very nice model.
  8. This is a weird one Dave. As a moderator, I can go to your Profile page and click on your "Edit Profile" button and then scroll down to your signature area. I can then make changes to your profile.
  9. Dave, This topic on adding a build log in your signature can be used to change or update your build log in the signature section of your profile. Let me know if you need any additional help on this.
  10. Congratulations on finishing your Longboat. It turned out really nice and I like your display base.
  11. Hi Hank and welcome to Model Ship World. It is great to have known the "Masters of the Craft" that you spoke of. I had one also, Frank Mastini. I enjoyed the time I spent with Frank. He would take no compensation for his time, telling me to always pass on my knowledge to other ship modelers, especially the new ship modelers. You will learn that we have a new generation of "Masters of the Craft" on MSW and you will learn things from them that will expand your knowledge. We also have members here who will be future "Masters of the Craft". I look forward to your contributions to this site.
  12. Congratulations on finishing your Syren. It is a beautiful model. Thanks for allowing us to follow your build.
  13. Congratulations on finishing your canoe. You did a great job on this and I know you cannot wait to get it in the water.
  14. Welcome to Model Ship World David. You have taken the right approach to this hobby by purchasing the series of beginner ship model kits designed by David Antscherl. He is a world class modeler and has taught many ship modeling techniques to ship modelers through his seminars. I look forward to following your builds.
  15. Looks like you have a good start on this kit. The dory builds into a nice model and seems to be a good model for the first time wooden ship modeler. I look forward to following your build.
  16. Hi Bob and welcome to Model Ship World. You have received some good advice about starting a build log. It will definitely help you in your build.
  17. Welcome to Model Ship World CapeCodder. You are from an area that is rich in maritime history. I enjoy visiting that area.
  18. Welcome to Model Ship World John. I am glad that you will complete this model. Too many ship models are started and never finished.
  19. You can add the tag for the name of the boat and the manufacture by clicking on the "+Add Tag" button located under your build log title. This will open up another window. Add the tags you want and be sure to hit the save button. The moderators monitor the tags and will add them to a build log if missing. I look forward to following your build.
  20. Lynn, Go to your build log and copy the web address of your build log. Then go to your profile and in your signature area, highlight the name of your model and go to the link icon (looks like a chain link, see Michael's post #14 above). This will open up another window where you will paste the web address of your build log. After pasting the web address, hit save. Your model name will be underlined in your signature showing that the link is active. You can highlight the model name and select the font color you want. I added your model link for you as I wanted to give you the correct steps. It has been a long time since I have added a model to my signature.
