Dornier Do-217K-1 by Papa - FINISHED - Revell - 1/72 - PLASTIC

Like fur on a gnat's backside, eh? -
After a trip to the range, we'd take the cap lock rifles apart and put them in a bucket of hot soapy water, after pulling the plug for the percussion cap. Take the ramrod, with a cleaning jag( looked like a big Q-tip) attached and run it in and out of the barrel, siphoning the soapy water thru the hole into the barrel. A few minutes work and clean barrel. Dry it and coat the barrel inside and out with gun oil. Reattach to rifle.

Since shellac seals the wood, stain it before sealing it. The glues we use also seal the wood, so again, stain beforehand. Test your stains on spare pieces of wood to see if the results are what you expect. The basswood used in some kits stains unevenly, so you may need a conditioner before staining. Minwax makes such a product. Have fun in your build.

You could get a mask that stops volatile organic compounds or look for SuperGlue that lacks the fumes.

I think the B-24 had a roomier fuselage, what with the shoulder mounted wing. And yep, the wing made it a bit faster and was more fuel efficient. They didn't get the press the B-17s did. They were maybe a third of 8th AF bombers in the UK during the war. In the Pacific, they were used quite a bit more. I'm in on this one.

Denis, I believe a number of A/C had partially closed doors like your PBJ. I vaguely remember the KC-135 doors not being all down on the ground, but I could be wrong for it. I do remember the Phantom's doors, cause we crew dogs could get bit by doors and vents on the bottom of the jet as we pre-flighted the jet. Check your photos real close.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
