  1. i'm affraid she will be huge. huge seems to be the new kit- designers standard.... I'm still hoping for a small scale kir of a large ship. I dont have space for another over three foot model. Jan
  2. Although you don't prefer your models painted, I very much like the black and whiye contrast of these painted clipper hulls. To me, it definitely adds to your outstanding model. Jan
  3. Funny, it wasn't untill that last pic that I realized the superstructure of these ships isn't symmetrical. Jan
  4. Ah, that's the trick. Very clever! I guess the glued frames are strong enough the prevent distortion of the two halves. Jan
  5. Cutting a model in two halves, that's a brave thing to do! Jan
  6. Hi, Now I start wondering. In previous posts you showed a full hull, now it is only a startboard half. Did you build i as a full hull, and then split in halvee, or did you build two halves, that you clamped together for the pictures in your first post? Also: in some pics it looks as if the decks are build directly into the hull, but you also show a deck out of the hull. Can you explain a bit on your methods? Jan
  7. These are the paper-models (free download, so you could give it a go) http://modelsnmoore.com/mmork.php Jan
  8. I made it easy for myself. I followed batavia with respect to thecolours. In fact that colourscheme was more 18th than 17th century. When looking at the original model, it is much closer to eg the colouring of the Wasa in stockholm. The reason that I choose the ochre was that the sculpting as delivered by Corel does not match to the original. All those nakd women are not there in the original, which makes it difficult to paint the corel-stuff like the original. Besides, I did not trust my ability enough to try something more sophisticated. Jan
  9. How did you makr those cannons? Is it resin casting? Jan
  10. That's her. jan
  11. The middle piece on top of the rudder sits too high. There is a beam on which the deck is resting, just above the tiller. That one runs over the full width of the ship. The same at the top end: there is a beam over the full width for the top-deck. There is, as far as I know no additional framing in the stern. Jan
  12. The fun of those old postcards is that they are all the same, only the direction the smoke plume is going differs Always a crowd on the Quay, as the ships were mostly going to the east (hence the white colour , and the sun-tent on the rear deck). The most renowned of the cruisers was Gelderland, taking Kruger to Europe after the Boer-war. Getting a second life as German anti-aircraft ship in WWII (under the name of Niobe). The other five were less famous, and were shorter lived. Here's the next. Not too difficult, I think Jan
  13. One province or the other, what does it matter Holland Class protected cruiser. Six of them build. All of them photograhped at this specific location, of which I am not copmpletely sure: I guess it is the Nieuwe Diep at the Den Helder Naval harbour. Jan
  14. Here I am again: the same pic is also around with the name of one of her sisters: HrMs Brabant. Jan
  15. She is a dutch one. Very nice ships they were, elegant and compeltely not up to their task I'll be back in a minute, I guess she's gelderland. Jan
  16. But the last post is quite old. Did something happen to the ship or its builder? Jan
  17. Your discovery that there isn't much is correct. Not only in recent literature, but also inthe contemporenous literature there is fairly little. That's a result of the fact that there wasn't a standardied building system in the netherlands. Building used to be very much driven by learni g fromfather to son. With respect tothe stuff at the frisian museum, you have to be aware: part of their collection is from local builders, but part of it also comes from amateurbuilders like you and me. There are actually models in their collection straight from the billing boats catalogue.... So, there is some pretty coolstuff over there, but also some less authentic material. Btw do you already know the maritiemdigitaal.nl site? Jan
  18. The easiest way to plank te bow is using a couple of filler blocks to get the shape right, and planking that over. Jan
  19. Can you explain how to dothat. When i tried, theytend to leave their position.... Jan
  20. I'm in the same group as popeye: untill now i did not realize that you would stop after setting up the lower masts. But, in fact, it helps setting your model even further apart from all those out of the box stuff. I've said itbefore:this one is amongst the best Wasa models i've seen ( if not: the best) Jan
