  1. Corel did invent quite a lot on this kit. As I never saw these brackets on any drawings nor on the Original model this kit is based upon, I took the liberty not to install them. I made new chanels, but I didn't look at the model before I did , I foloowed the drawing by Ketting. As he draws the channels way too wide, there is too much distance between my shrouds and the hull... I am always surprised at the relatovely large deadeyes used in those old models, and the complete lack of distance between them. We tend to set the distance almost tow or three times the diameter of those deadeyes. The old models have far less (although this model of Prins Willem is redone by Ketting in the seventies..) Jan
  2. He also did the instructions on the Mayflower. Jan
  3. He did show. There is a bonnehomme richard (forward part) here on msw. even better than the chisels.
  4. Waterline level. The other does give an awkward appearance of the Rigging. It also kind of hides the steep masts. Jan
  5. I think it was 1:64. No idea what the dimensions are. Not a small model, but I may be tempted to persuade the admiral http://www.amatimodel.com/it/modelli/novita/revenge Jan
  6. Don't misunderstand me. I see that these kits are wonderful kits. Problem is that my workshop and home does not fit around a 1:64 ,Vic. I therefore would prefer something much smaller in scale. By the way: what js the current status of the galleon Revenge? Jan
  7. i'm affraid she will be huge. huge seems to be the new kit- designers standard.... I'm still hoping for a small scale kir of a large ship. I dont have space for another over three foot model. Jan
  8. Although you don't prefer your models painted, I very much like the black and whiye contrast of these painted clipper hulls. To me, it definitely adds to your outstanding model. Jan
  9. Funny, it wasn't untill that last pic that I realized the superstructure of these ships isn't symmetrical. Jan
  10. Ah, that's the trick. Very clever! I guess the glued frames are strong enough the prevent distortion of the two halves. Jan
  11. Cutting a model in two halves, that's a brave thing to do! Jan
  12. Hi, Now I start wondering. In previous posts you showed a full hull, now it is only a startboard half. Did you build i as a full hull, and then split in halvee, or did you build two halves, that you clamped together for the pictures in your first post? Also: in some pics it looks as if the decks are build directly into the hull, but you also show a deck out of the hull. Can you explain a bit on your methods? Jan
  13. These are the paper-models (free download, so you could give it a go) http://modelsnmoore.com/mmork.php Jan
  14. I made it easy for myself. I followed batavia with respect to thecolours. In fact that colourscheme was more 18th than 17th century. When looking at the original model, it is much closer to eg the colouring of the Wasa in stockholm. The reason that I choose the ochre was that the sculpting as delivered by Corel does not match to the original. All those nakd women are not there in the original, which makes it difficult to paint the corel-stuff like the original. Besides, I did not trust my ability enough to try something more sophisticated. Jan
  15. How did you makr those cannons? Is it resin casting? Jan
  16. That's her. jan
  17. The middle piece on top of the rudder sits too high. There is a beam on which the deck is resting, just above the tiller. That one runs over the full width of the ship. The same at the top end: there is a beam over the full width for the top-deck. There is, as far as I know no additional framing in the stern. Jan
  18. The fun of those old postcards is that they are all the same, only the direction the smoke plume is going differs Always a crowd on the Quay, as the ships were mostly going to the east (hence the white colour , and the sun-tent on the rear deck). The most renowned of the cruisers was Gelderland, taking Kruger to Europe after the Boer-war. Getting a second life as German anti-aircraft ship in WWII (under the name of Niobe). The other five were less famous, and were shorter lived. Here's the next. Not too difficult, I think Jan
