I'm still here! I've made a little progress on this build... several months ago I pulled the kit out and installed the masts, then it went dormant again... a recent job change and move has given me more spare time, and a "man cave", so I'm back to work on this ship... at this point I've just started the rigging. It's really starting to look good! I'll probably get some pics up tomorrow...

Thanks for the likes! I'm really enjoying working with cardstock...
As for this ship, I tried to make the masts today, not sure how that's gonna work out. They want you to roll them up out of paper, but that is a very difficult proposition... I may just make wood masts instead... (the kit mentioned that as an option). Rigging will be interesting, my intent is to do a lot more than the kit suggests, which is going to require much research on my part... should be fun...

I haven't given up on this yet, just took an extended break... I've made some progress today after roughly 1 year of nothing.
I now wish I hadn't used photobucket for my pictures, should've figured something like this would happen... grrrrrrrr!! I will get some current pics up soon, and I'll see if I still have some of the older pics to re-post...

Wow! Thanks for sharing that picture! Big difference, could make rigging much easier for a newbie like me...

I agree! This ship carries a rather interesting story...
The book also has very detailed rigging instructions which will be very helpful, I just need to make sense of them in my head. I'm sure I will figure it out as I go along...

The top tip I would give you, for building that model, is to get the Noel C L Hackney book for the Airfix Mayflower. This is a step by step guide to building the model at three different levels of expertise and is brilliant. That Revell kit is very good but this will help you achieve museum standard.
Thank you! I have just received the book and, at first glance, it appears to contain a wealth of helpful information! Just wanted to make sure I shared my appreciation for your recommendation of this book!

Another birthday gift, started painting the hull so why not start the log?
I know I started a revell Constitution when I was a kid, but never finished it. I figured it was probably the smaller one, I didn't think my parents would buy me a 3 foot long model ship, and I didn't see myself having the means to buy the big one myself. So I ordered this kit with an amazon gift card from my sister in law. It's not the one I had... after looking into reviews and videos on YouTube I have determined that I somehow ended up with the 1:96 kit as a kid!! So I don't get to "finish the one I started ", at least not now, but I'm sure I'll still have fun building this smaller one...

Waiting on the mayflower book by Hackney to arrive... amazon gives an arrival time of Oct. 17 to Nov 1... been working on a few other ships while I wait... had a great birthday (5 ship kits including this one, will do logs here on two of the others).
Just in case anyone here is in the medical profession and is wondering, the cut in my thumb is almost completely healed...

Spent a few minutes painting more parts...
Using almost the same color paint as the model kit is molded in. Even still, I can see the difference between "raw" plastic and painted parts... definitely worth painting, I'm excited to see this ship come together...
