Thank you very much, JJ, Fred, and Chuck. I'll start working on sanding it off.
Steve, I'm glad to be of service. Learning from other people's mistakes is a definite benefit of MSW membership!

I can’t believe the dumb mistake I just discovered. Way back in chapter two, I put the anchor shield in the wrong spot. Now I’m faced with a dilemma and I’d love to get some opinions. As I see it, I have a few options. 1: leave it as is and install the billboard above it, also in the wrong place. 2: try to remove it and install it in the right place. As I see it, this is very risky. I’m not sure if I used CA or PVA to attach it. Regardless, taking it off could cause a lot of damage. 3: leave that one there and install a replacement in the right place. 4: leave it where it is and install the billboard in the correct location. What do you think?

Looking great, Steve. Welcome to the Winnie Group. This is a fantastic project and I hope you enjoy it. I’ve said this to others, and it keeps getting to be more true: you’ve picked a great time to start the project. Chuck’s new parts are getting better all the time, like the laser cut caps for the cannon, 3d printed deadeyes, and the new version of gun port cover hinges. Plus, there are a lot of logs to look through and still a lot of people working on their models. I look forward to watching your progress.

I’m still making slow progress on my HMS Winchelsea. I have a milestone to report: I’ve finished chapter six! I was short by eight cannon and found time to finish them. It was a concerted effort as it started to bother me. One consequence of dragging my feet was that I could not use the belaying pins from The Crafty Sailor for the last few. I ran out and they closed shop. So I broke down and did it the way Chuck said to do it: I turned them in my Dremel.
I’ve also started chapter eleven. I assembled all of the chainplates as prescribed. I’ve mounted one as you can see in my pictures. I was very nervous about removing the molding, but it wasn’t really that hard. I just took my time on the cuts and loosened them with CA Un-Cure. I’m using the new 3D printed deadeyes in Swiss Pear. They look fantastic. There’s a ton of work to do in chapter 11 so I’m sure it will take me a while to finish it.

Chapter six complete! Kind of - they aren’t fixed in place yet.
Port side foremast chain plate in place. I had to see how a deadeye looks in place. It looks surprised! -
Hi Frank. I’ve make a little progress, but nothing ready for pictures. I have the chain plates assembled (chapter 11) but not installed. I also finally finished the last of the gun deck cannon. I was short by six for the past two years. I should be done traveling for work. But life is getting in the way of hobbies right now.

It’s looking great, Peter! I’m glad to see you’re still at it.

Hi David. I recommend reading build logs for any model ship kit before taking the plunge. Then base your decision on what you see in the build logs.

I can’t tell you the last time I made any progress on my Winchelsea. And it’s not getting better soon. I’m in the UK for work for three weeks this month and coming back late next month for four more. Today was my first day off since I arrived, so I went down to Greenwich to visit the NMM. Unfortunately, they’re renovating it and a lot of models are off display. Here are a few pictures of what I saw.

I know what you mean, Frank. My kids are in high school sports, so I spend a lot of time at games and meets. And I’ve been traveling for work way too much this year. I’ve got a long trip to the UK coming up this fall and I’m hoping to visit the National Maritime Museum while I’m there. Don’t get me wrong: I love going to my kids events and I know this time is fleeting. I also love what I do for work and I’m getting a lot of time with customers this year. But I have a place picked out to display Winnie, and instead she’s on the bench being neglected.

Thanks, Glenn. Yes, they are tricky. I think this would be some of the things Chuck refers to as "fiddly bits". And I agree. I've actually been working on these railings for months, but in really small time increments. That has given me a lot of time to think about what I was doing, which helped me do a better job on them.

Beautiful work, Glenn!

This looks amazing, JJ! Your design seems to incorporate all of the best techniques I’ve seen on MSW. It’s a lot of fun watching it come together. My favorite detail you have is the laser cut slots for the channels. That’s going to make it so easy to locate and securely mount them.

Thanks, Chuck. I read the monograph and studied your pictures a lot. Most importantly, I went pretty slowly.

Beautifully done, Frank! Your moldings look amazing. I agree with Glenn that you are miles ahead having the channels fit while doing the moldings. I’m glad you’ve recovered from the flu and/or Covid.

I have sanded them off and started the new installation. But it still looks awful. I’m busy with my kids’ sports right now and haven’t spent any time in the shipyard since early March. Lacrosse and track will be done in a couple of weeks, but by then it will be 1:1 scale boat season.
