"aside from resorting to the use of a two stage epoxy, I have yet to find a suitable cement for it." I used UHU on both Smit Rotterdam and Smit Nederland, which worked rather well, if I may say so

"There appears to be quite a bit of extra length behind the collar." On my plastic build I had to take some lengths off the brass turrets too (nearly 2 cm!) so that doesn't make me wonder

When you find them, let me know where I can get a pair!!! Now Slog mentionned it, I wondered what that ridge/ring was for ... but the difference in scale = 1/200 vs my plastic 1/350 - put me off too ... so much more details ...

You are quite accomplished at soldering Mark. I wouldn't have tried to solder stainless steel though ... still wonder if such a weld would hold at all ... so maybe it is a bit of luck it isn't stainless Cheers

If this planking is not your definite layer, you need not be very accurate. A smooth finish would do, the run of the planks is less important. like this The final layer defines the look and feel of the hull in the end. If the final layer, you will have some steelers e.a. to make

Have a good look at ladders, and things which needs to be installed first as other bits will run over them ... I made that mistake, and I seem to see rungs crossed bij those horizontal rails/rungs or whatever you call them ... I like those louvres better than the pontos part. Although, I wouldn't know if it is better in view of contemporary usage or not

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
