  1. I use vallejo with it's own thinner. I add between between 30 & 50% thinner - nearly forgot: in their Air products(!!!) _ when it's hot I add a few drops of their "retarder". I use several airbrushes, amongst others a H&S The only time it clogged in mine was when I used undiluted primer, which wasn't airbrush primer (I saw that later <sigh>). The G class destroyer is painted with vallejo too, only the grey and the primer are Tamiya, since I had that grey paint on the shelf, the rust is vallejo, and mig Good job, not my shape of ship, glad I found your build log though
  2. Got some spray in the air this morning at 6:30. a reasonable temp at hat time - low twenties (C) - and after that some more weathering of the deck structures, still some cleaning up to do. Need to finish the funnels, but that will be done off ship. Besides I forgot to add the eyelets on them to tie them down ... more fiddley work ... broke the yards from the foremast, some repairs too And what you've been waitin for ... and a piyama hull
  3. Steven, Greg would like those summery winter temps I believe, at least when you listen to him - I know I should only listen to his wheathering technique instructions but he keeps on twisting my arm ...
  4. We won't be having that luxury for some time to come yet. It will be getting warmer and dryer for the next two weeks, at least, that's what predictions seem to tell us. I still find it hard to believe those predicaments... unfortunately they have been rather accurate off late ... warm, warmer, hot, and back again. No rain, no rain, no rain ... so we are not confronted with runoff roads or sudden unexpected canyons ...
  5. Steven, not to belittle you, but those two galleys seem to be floating on top of the water too, as is often the case in middle age paintings since they didn't understand depth/perspective, so those two "spurs" could be below the surface ... the limitations of a painter's abilities are something to take into account as well
  6. Those are nice temps mate Keeps you on your feet hopping and jumping, whilst when it gets t hot you won't accomplish anything Now I know why you go so fast presently in your own build!!!
  7. I don't think firewalls, it could be my poor internet connectivity, [rant on] I was going for glassfiber, but in the end it won't become available where I live. The company which offered to make it available needed 50% of the households to participate (the infrastructure needs to be laid out as well), but the morrons in the hood want to over-pay for their connection. However, I'm not prepared to pay €55 - €65 for cable internet, since I do not need 70+ channels for the telly (we hardly ever look, but for news, and weather) or telephone, as we both have portables ... [rant off] They do carry quite a few, mostly army, and airforce though. Oddly enough, it seems there is just one navy ... or should I say "typically" No painting done, to "warm" - as RGL put it - in the booth, I saw myself turn into a puddle on the floor ... If I ever go to the southern hemisphere, I think to skip Aussie all together and go straight to NZ considering the remarks on the lovely temperatures in the land of Aussies, on the other hand, I would miss some fun people ... At the beginning of this week I had a lucid moment, despite the warmth, got the second hull primed. First a layer of Tamiya grey, than a thinned solution of Vallejo black, then I gave it a piyama stripe mask and added several layers of Tamiya again. As far as I can see it looks promising for the next paint layers ... curious as to how that will turn out and especially when!
  8. Thanks Ken, I got only errors on the first one, I should be used to that, and the second link is a confirmation of what I've read on modelwarships.com, explained in a different way. Still I like the way he takes his stand on scale fading.
  9. for what it's worth, the Greeks and Romans used bronze spurs, also nailed to the hull, bow, and keel
  10. Thanks for the likes, and the comments gents! Very much appreciated I would have expected something like that too, but I couldn't find any reference towards such a slippery subject. Just following someones trail isn't the way I planned this build. I was glad I could lay my hands on the recipe for deck blue, as it is not available in any brand: One drop of this, three drops a that, thirteen drops a that, all times ten since seventeen drops hardly be enough to paint one deck, let alone three! If you find something on anti-nickers, pls, le'me know. I can still add it to the deck. Hope to get some paint on the deck structures, funnels, and other assortments this week, but life seems to be intent on getting in the way of fun things
  11. Had some spare time today, so I got in th spray booth ... deck blue ... made on recipe a bit of pastel added ... some more to go ... Hope to get some time this week to paint deck furnishings, like the bridge, and raised gun platforms
  12. Dumb questions do not exist 'arry. There are liquids which make the decals follow the shape of dents and bulbs on the plastic. I got some from Vallejo, but haven't needed it yet. There are other brands too. Besides the contour following, there are liquids which deter sticking to the surface, and to make them stick better. You can find quite some information on youtube when you look for "model decals how to apply" Cheers
