  3. Glenn, that machinery (engine, flywheels, paddlewheels) and now the excellent quadruple tube boiler station look superb. This for sure is a trip into vintage steam machining history of a great period, also the combination wood / metal. I love that ship, what can be seen so far... Nils
  4. A beautiful ship Peter, congrats my freind... and well presented with those lovely pictures Nils
  5. Thank you Martin, for your nice comment on the lanterns, fortunately my wife always askes me before things (out of forgotten corners) get tossed away, and also its very fortunate if you have a room for yourself to bunker such things Am looking out for your update progress on "HMS Fly" Martin ? Here`s a little impression what my desk looks like, without tidying up every time..... Nils
  6. that`s a smooth and fine base for your second planking Bob, Nils

  8. Piet and Michael, thank you so much for your nice compliments, I`m glad the metal work is liked, it gets a bit tricky with limiting the heat flow to spot areas when soldering, because it`s mostly done with the mini gas torch, but it is a good exercise Nils
  9. Thank you very much Grant and Boyd, Grant, trust in one more week those medical issues will be overcome Boyd, ...If I find something (material) that can be used somehow, I put it aside, together with an idea for usage, and probably ca`nt find it again when it is needed, like for that thin PVC tube, I searched a day or so.... Nils
  10. thank you all so much..... Denis, Martin, David, Bob, Michael and all the "likes" here a little update.... I`ve been at the lantern making this morning. I knew that I still had some clear PVC tube (for medical hospital oxygen masks) Together with with diam. 4 x 3 mm brass tube a square window was filed into the brass tube, and then the PVC tube was pushed into the framing lantern housings. There where the PVC tube passed the window it was bulbed out a bit, resembling the shape of the "glass" Nils filed a window into the brass tube push a clear PVC tube into the brass tube cut the tubes to length and fitted a concentric mounting pin The lanterns are fixed with a drop of CA (ca`nt solder here because of PVC). The overstanding holding pins will be clipped off to the right length watchout on station....
  11. thank you very much Carl, It`s fun to carry on..... this morning I made the crow`s nest, the lantern brackets, and am dry fitting the access ladder.... For the lanterns I have something in mind, but have to do trials first Nils
