  1. Very nice work on the bow rigging Rob; looks great! How did you make the iron plates on the hull for the bowsprit guys/shrouds. I have been contemplating various options for a while including a simple strap cur to length and a hole put in one end. cheers Pat
  2. Rob said: "No image I have shows clearly the belay points for the sheets and bunt lines and since the mizzen lacks a proper fife rail(short of the spider band)....I can only imagine that the rail was used as a pin rail......" Rob, if it is anything to go by, the 'Victoria' had the same issues. Her Contract specifically required a spider band to the Mizen, two sheet bitts (no cross-piece (fife rail) and a photograph I have shows mizen pin rails on her after cap/roughtree rails. Also, some of the rigging that ran aft on the other masts, ran forward, using blocks on the after crosstrees of those masts, thence to the deck, for the mizen running rigging. cheers Pat edit: Also, most of the authors of this time (and more recent times ) agree that sheet jeer bitts were fitted for the mizen.
  3. Very nice work; so very well executed Bitao. cheers Pat
  4. Steven, I have some 'privet' which is in the boxwood genus. This is a dense wood which is very tight grained and strong, but as with any wood when you go thin, it loses strength. I can spare you some if you would like to experiment/use it? cheers Pat
  5. Experimentation and persistence is the way to go until you find the method and result you prefer. Nice progress so far. cheers Pat
  6. Your making some good progress there Peter, and gad to see you are sorting out the plank bending. Spiling (shaping) planks to fit correctly is an art that requires some practice. Attached is a photo of the Endeavour replica which was posted previously on this site (I think -source unknown). It may help to see how they did it on a real life replica. cheers Bluff Bow Planking Primer.pdf Pat
  7. This will be a nice addition to your miniature fleet Greg. We have the 'Castlemaine' nearby, so if you have questions just holler cheers Pat
  8. At that size, I think your plan should work. I used a two-part 'liquid glass' product from Craftworks (sold in Spotlight) to do mine, but I have seen modellers also use PVA as it dries clear. I have used acrylic rod inserted into thin wall brass tubing (cut a little thick then polished down to the required thickness) for my HMCSS Victoria build ( cheers Pat
  9. Hi and thanks for looking in. I am not sure whether this is similar to Bligh's boat as I have never done a comparison, but it did tie in somewhere between Parkin's and Marquardt's versions of a long boat. Unless we find a 'way back' machine, no one will know for sure. cheers Pat
  10. You're really making some serious progress on the rigging now Keith; looking good mate. cheers Pat
  11. Nice work Rob, doing so much off the model where you have better access will make a great difference. cheers Pat
  12. Avery nice start, the hull is crisp and nicely detailed for that scale. Look forward to seeing more. cheers Pat
  13. More of your top quality work to feast our eyes on Bitao; many thanks Pat
  14. Very nice work Eberhard; think your 'yellow' choice is very close - well with much of the material I have seen while researching. cheers Pat
  15. Hi Keith, as usual your workmanship is simply superb. WRT leather, I contacted a local saddler who put me onto their supplier. After some discussion on what I was trying to achieve, they were able to supply me with some small offcuts of very thin leather which I was able to 'scrape' to get it even finer. May be worth a try? cheers Pat
