  1. Some good news and some not so good news too. Frist the good news, digging into how to rig the Golden Hind, the kit instructions are useless, but a member told me that it is rigged pretty close to the Mayflower, and I have done one from Amati that had good information on how to tie, what blocks and where things go, so I dug out my Mayflower info and boom there it all was , and if I get stuck I can run upstairs and look at my finished Mayflower. Lol And the bad news is I just noticed that they mainmast platforms is glued on backwards. Darn, to much work for me to redo to fix this soo.... marking it down as next ship I 'll do better lol. Plus that big plastic sail on the upper main mast will hid it lol. 😆😅 So I am in my happy place , ratlines. 😁 . Plus the not knowing what to do about the rigging , is a big load to get rid of, just a matter of neatness and getting the the time to do any modeling. Between hockey season, planting season, stuff I got to do season, I am sure these ratlines will take awhile. On thing about plastic is if you wiggle it back an forth for awhile it breaks. I had to stop yesterday because I was shaking so much that the deadeyes were breaking off. Of the 20 sets of deadeyes I have shook off four so far, and they are a pain to fix that's for sure. Armed with new information about rigging, time to geth'r done .!! Thank you all so much, everything you need to know about modeling you can find right here on MSW/NRG,. The little plastic ship is growing on me, painting is just about done three walls and some sail highlites. Rigging should be straightforward enough, like I say it's a matter of how much detail I want to do. We will see. Thanks for popping in. Knocklouder
  2. Bryan you should know exactly where everything is, you'll be the one put things away in the right spot. Lol. Boy the models that will be coming from the new ship yard will be amazing, I can hardly wait. Great job Bob M.
  3. Italy has some great model companies and no shipping lol. Welcome aboard, good luck on your journey. Bob M.
  4. A special thanks to @Snug Harbor Johnnyfor his suggestion that I look over the bolt rope on my sails, sure enough I glued them on wrong. yes they look better thus way, there are a couple of little dents in the sail that I am hoping a heat gun can fix that we will see. And of course, I had to see what they will look like lol. Except for the four yards and the bowsprit mast that are all back in the box things a running smoothly. Starting to look a lot like the box , and the lower shrouds for the foremast are installed, on to the main mast tomorrow, yes there is a white out in Winnipeg right now so have to shut her down for the night. Back at h'r tomorrow, Knocklouder
  5. Thank you so much @Snug Harbor Johnny, they look a lot better this way, Thanks for looking out for me , the benefits of membership 😉. Knocklouder
  6. A true junkie would have a double, two days a week and a single on the weekend lol Plus we need up dates as well, size, weight and length of each catch 😉 😀 Knocklouder
  7. The making of the sails. This morning I thought I take a break from rigging and see what I was going to do with the sails. Yesterday I brushed on a coat of Holy white speed paint thined with water about 40% . A quick coat and leave it, after it dryed I clear coated it. Today I came up with a plan, lol. Rodney, my late friend , told me about G-S HYOP cement, said it was great for rigging,,but I never really tryed it. Anyway I cut the sails in pieces, Then I used a 1.3 mm rope for a bolt rope. Glued it on , seized the ends and found using the black x-acto to cut them out was the best. Soo ,, then I had to see what they looked like. And here are my sails, I going to airbrush some highlights latter, but I think they will be fine. The Frist Mate said they are Beautiful ,oh my they look fantastic. Lol I think she doesn't want to make cloth sails lol 😆 😂 Well sails are done, back to rigging, I really thought the sails would be a problem, but some how it all came together nicely. Back to rigging. Can you belive the amount of fun you can have, just putting a kit together, they are all different, and have enjoyed each. I can hardly wait for my next Surprise on my next ship that I will buy. Lol. latter my friends, I can smell ratlines and my heart beats faster just thinking about them lol. Bob M.
  8. Mary Millicent Miller (née Mary Millicent Garretson; 1846 – October 30, 1894) was an American steamboat master who was the first American woman to acquire a steamboat master's license.[1] Mary Millicent Miller https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c4/Mary_Millicent_Miller.jpg Keith she could be the steam boat master, but I don't think she was the first 🤔. More likely she the guys who has his hand on the car wife, he got that smile that says the car is more important, she justs wants to get away from him. The two guys are the crew, with Buba the fellow with the black hat is the captain. They are docked so he's going for a nap, lol sounds like a good idea 💡 🤣 Knocklouder
  9. Nicely done my friend, thanks for posting this log, I will reference it often as I rig my Golden Hind. Thank you Bob M.
  10. All the channels are installed, with deadeyes and lanyards finished. Lol @GrandpaPhil the First Mate says try painting the kit supplied sails. If they don't turn out ok she will sew me some new ones. So this is the sails with the first wash coat. I will glue on a bolt rope add some highlights should be good. But now it is TIME to start rigging. Sir Drake says we are short about six feet of .5mm black thread for the upper deadeyes, plan is to use tan .5 mmm then tar it black(paint). The first set of shrouds are installed and seizeing is not all that bad. I can smell ratlines in the air. I still have the three walls to paint, bow, mid ship and stren , but I am in my happy place with ratlines so close lol. I have several ways to rig this ship, I have not decided yet on how far I plan on rigging. Apparently she is rigged pretty much the same way The Mayflower is rigged, so looking at my Amati Mayflower for inspiration lol. Talk soon , Shipmates. Knocklouder. .
  11. The box is almost empty, just some kind of jig to tie shrouds I think. Plus the flags and two rolls of white thread, the same size. Sir Drake gives the kit sails the look over. Let's see what we can do. All the peices, have been painted The yellow on the stren need another coat but tomorrow. Hopefully I can get all the pieces glued on , easiest deadeyes and lanyards I ever made lol. Ratlines are on the horizon . Thanks for looking in. Knocklouder.
  12. I am going to call the painting of the hull on my Golden Hind finished. Time to build the anchors, four of them. The sign was a bit of a challenge, but it is not bad. Channels and deadeyes next , this is the portside main channale. I will paint the rest tomorrow. I should be able to run a few shrouds and ratlines by the end of the week, research on the sails, I am going to paint the kit sails, and apply a bolt rope to one and see if it is worth cutting the rest or making some paper sails. We wil l see. That's my ship for the day, thanks for looking in. Knocklouder
  13. More painting, plus more touch ups . This seems to be the biggest part of the build, painting the model . Only the ropes are not painted, and I am to shakey to paint straight lines anymore. A little more green then a little more white followed by touch ups. The red strip is done lol. Add the blue curtain next then it's on to the cannons. Real life yard work and the love of my life knows her wish is my comand, has more green house things that need attention 😞 No playing till Monday , but then we are going for the big guns. All four of them. Thanks for looking in and yes @Keith Black I broke up the Bowsprit yard off , for the first time lol. Thank you MSN for all the resources here to help build a ship. Never expected to be having this much fun, there is always something new to try, After I get this ship painted I going to paint a schooner, the Bluenose. Later my friend's. Knocklouder.
  14. @Thunder nice looking ship, did you use the kit supplied sails? I have to help the First Mate get her green house set up, hoses to run barrels to fill that sort of thing. Hopefully I can get back to shipyard latter today. I have to trim the white, that will make it look more presentable, and Sir Francis Drake could not agree more lol It will look a lot better after I trim it out but it is coming along nicely. The white trim will really make the Golden Hind look pretty decent I think. There is lots of painting to do on this kit. I much prefer working on wooden kits., and someday may want to build this Golden Hind in wood, but thats highly unlikely because I got a stach of kits to last a life time, and another Surprise is on the way. Lol Coming up to renewal time soon , wow four years, where does the time go. Later my freinds, thanks for all the help, and for everything you all have done for this greatful happy modeler lol. Knocklouder.
