  3. That was an amazing excavation. I read about it (one of my dad's books) when I was a kid. I had trouble trying to come to grips with excavating and entire ship by looking for the sand discolouration. John

  6. Yes, the reef points are on both sides of the sail. When the sail is reefed it is gathered up and tied off with the reef points, thus making a shorter sail. John

  18. Perhaps there are two yards that may have been particularly prone to chaff? At a guess the fore and main courses - but it is only a guess. John
