Hi Ulises, Is it so much bigger than the Vasa? I'll be happy to follow your build, le Royal Louis is one ship from my favourite period of history. Enjoy your build!

Hum... well, that's a good thing you were not happy with the first shrouds then! As my granny used to say: "doing and redoing, this is working"... So, we'll have a new shrouds picture next time?

Hi Andy, I missed the beginning of this log but I'll follow it from now on. That's a very interesting build... and quite a change from Peggy! Have fun!

Very well done Danny! And what a nice contrast between the different wood colours, good choice! About the timberheads, are they supposed to be the end of the frames on the real ship? Is that why you mention cheating?
-
Hi Sjors, Yes, every thing's all right, thanks. It's just that I have had very little available time for MSW of late... I hope to be more present from now on.
-
Hi Sjors! Congratulations on completing Le Mirage! The hard work (and re-work) was well worth it, she is beautiful! See you on San Ildefonso, then.
-
Great to see some progress on Arethusa, Elia! You did a superb job on the deadeyes and chain plates, thank you for sharing the fabrication steps with us.

Andy, My sincere condolences. I know the feeling of losing a grand pa', and I'm sure you'll find the words.

Michael, That's a fantastic job you are doing on the rigging! It's a real pleasure to admire your workmanship. Just out of curiousity, what tool did you used to shape the cleat? John, I'm sure it is full size... and there are some proofs somewhere in this log too, with a living human on deck!

Hi John, That seems an interesting project! I just love these nice low-on-the water work boats. We will be patient, don't worry. I'm going to lurk in the front row just in case!

She is a beauty, John! Bravo! I have the same feeling as you have on her spars making her seem light: she looks as if she would actually fly above water with her sails on. Will she be displayed in the museum (I can't remember if you already mentioned that...)? I'm eager to following your next build.

Nice progress Ulises! Your are doing a wonderful job on your rigging. And stop kidding us about "bad" photos, please... I wish I could take some as good as yours!

No problem Anja. Fritsl, After seeing your log I realised I misunderstood your question. So, here is the proper answer I hope: I have drawn only one side of the assembly but there is the same rigging on the other side. This is how I understood the plans anyway, I don't know if it is really how it is supposed to be done...
-
Hello Fritsl, I'm well indeed, thank you. I'm not sure I understand your question but I imagine you are talking about the connection between the rudder post and what I call the bar on deck (the stick that is used to move the rudder)... I have drawn a sketch showing how I did it: I pierced a hole in the upper part of the rudder post, and another hole through the bar and then simply glued both parts to a brass rod that passes through the hull and that I bent at the bottom end... Hope that this helps. edit: did not see your following post: I'll have a look at your log then!

Nice progress Sjors! Your are now a master ratliner it seems... Did I read well and see a "there is still one more level to go" or something ? But will she not pierce the ceiling then?!

A bit late on the praise-party, Andy, but let me join the chorus! She is just lovely!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
