thanks Sam.......I bookmarked it. sounds like a useful tool. maybe I can find others as well {whoopie!!! I can throw away my stone axes!} thanks Brian.....this kit is a bit of an oddity. but for one whose willing to devote the time with it, it can be a nice little model. definitely needed the enhancements, to be sure part of me still thinks I should have redid the sails, but using these will further the work boat quality. I gave it definition between the standing and running rigging. I haven't had a chance to do more on her yet.......but the next time I update, I will have the jibs on her. thanks for the good word gents....and thanks to those who hit the like button

thanks all....and thanks for the additional likes! once I touch up what I've done, I can add more. too bad I can't use more of the life boats......I have chocks from the Hood PE. but I will do the two, and that will be it. I looked at what you received Jack.......impressive line up I looked up the John W Brown.......interesting.......a converted merchant ship, to a liberty ship. her rigging should be some very cool detail. thanks Carl.......I'll put the last one there

I was a little concerned about your method........there were some paint scratches that went a little too deep. in light of what you've done here......she looks pretty darn good now I wonder what those green areas are all about?!?!....part of that plating perhaps?

yesterday was a bust for me........between the heat and the mowing, I just couldn't get it together. I did manage to assemble more of the main mast though, and began the paint work on the life rafts. I started to fiddle around with it this morning........before I knew it, it's well into the afternoon. first, there was the platform that has a life raft on it. it was assembled with the legs, and given a PE girder look on the sides. the spot light was finished and painted, later to be cemented in place on the platform. the mast has the yards on it now.......it too was painted. The HMAS Vendetta had a different pendant number during this time in her career.....I69. the decaling was next. she was with the 7th Flotilla, and she wore two white stripes on her aft funnel. I had some decals that I had cut in half, lengthwise, to do them in....some stripes that were to go on that P 47 I had on the desk......but I found that they were micro cracked. guess it's good i found out now.......when I build the Heinkel HE 111 bomber that accompanied the Thunderbolt, I will know to spray the decal sheet with decal bonder. I was going to go through my other decals, but I decided to simply paint them on. I did them freehand........not too bad, but there's room for improvement. to get more parts on the model, the aft guns were cemented in place. in between the bits and pieces, other parts were being painted and prepped. the life raft platform was painted and cemented in place. the life rafts were painted, and they also were cemented in place........I found a place for all but one, but I'm sure I can fit it in somewhere. the spotlight platform was also cemented in place.......so ws a ladder that leads to the machine gun platform. I've done no touch ups yet........ I neglected to take a picture of the port side........there's a life raft in the same places on that side too. I'll likely concentrate on the bow for the next session thanks for look'in in

those protrusions under them........they might be a molded interpretation of them. did you give any thought to trimming them off? looking at your after picture, it looks as though you did. in the actual ship photos though, it appears that they were positioned above the portholes, lining the structure bulwarks. are you also going to open up the windows to the left of them.

I would suggest the same thing Brian........there are a few flaws with this kit. I'm working my way back to it and should be back at it soon. I'm not using the metal windows and doors, which means that there will be some scratch building going on. I'd be pleased if you followed along.......the more the merrier

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
