  1. tin foil Sjors...........tin foil!.......or, you may have to go on the roof and reorient the antenna! LOL! I read the posts earlier, and decided to stay out of it. I love to talk as much as anyone.......what else is there to do between pictures. I too enjoy the company here. when MSW went down.......I was truly lost........not being able to sit down and visit with you all, was a real bummer. this is the #1 site that I belong to........you folks and your builds are the greatest. even stranger than that Daniel...........a clown doing a French ship........you would think that a mime would be doing one......but that would be a boring build log.......only pictures
  2. I try not to clutter too much...at least.....I hope I don't. your idea is an interesting one.......but the key here is......moderation
  3. have a good time John..........and give a 'popeye' chuckle to the admiral for me!
  4. you got that right........once the rigging begins to get thick, it's hard to see what's new.
  5. just raise it up and add a bit of wood at the bottom..........blend, paint.......... rinse, repeat you must have taken it to work with you.........seems you hit a bump!
  6. beautiful ship........not one you'd see every day.....which makes it even more special. wonderful workmanship!
  7. have a look at Dafi's build of the Victory......in there {somewhere} he has a very detailed build session of the capstan. at the bottom, there is a ratchet and pawl set up, that will lock it into position and won't back off, should a rest be needed.
  8. it's OK to say you like them Robbyn.......there is always something in particular that everyone likes in their builds. I do have to admit though.....it's quite a head turner........repetition ad nausium I look forward in seeing your redo.......I sympathize with your revelation, and I hope it goes well for you.
  9. David......she looks fantastic! your rigging is so neatly done. so, does this mean that the Bounty is finished?.....if so, congrats! I couldn't help but notice........is that a piece of tape on the rudder?
  10. if I didn't over do the initial build, there wouldn't have been a dual build. I hope the subject overrides the fact that it will be a multi build........Ijust hope it works as well in wood, as it does in my mind
  11. nice job with the paint Sjors...she's looking real good. don't get any ideas that I called them..........perhaps they saw the poem I wrote.......
  12. your not talking abouit my spitfire,,,,,,are you Augie? egads.... I feel like a freaking newbie again......I haven't messed with one of these for........it seems like ages! absolutely no comparison at all to your beauties
  13. I am big on the suggestion of "the next one". I hardly ever change anything drastic........for fear that it might distort the wood or something. for first time modelers......I tend to suggest finishing the model the way it is. then, after doing a few more builds, look at the first one they did. this is a good barometer, for showing you, how much you have learned. this cut out the agravation for the modeler, and prevents wanting to give up. I do apologize, but I find it sad to see folks back tracking on their builds. since you have chosen to correct it........I hope your redo works well for you.
  14. hows your reception now...........maybe some tin foil ............sometimes if you dangle them out the window, you might be able to get the french stations............oul-la-la!
  15. I appreciate that Andy........the Boulogne sits for the moment.........I've done what I set out to do. doing some of the planking for the Half Moon, is giving me time to think of the best starting place for the Gothenborg. I also have to get a move on with the sails for my friend, I have them cut out....now I need to sew. never a dull moment at the wharf thanks, my friend!
  16. I gotta finish that spitfire Augie......at the moment, it just got the primer. I'll look forward in seeing your planking, good sir.........take your time
  17. you guys..........that's why I love this site....you folks are just the greatest collective sorts, I've ever had the chance to meet! it won't be for a while yet........unless the admiral badgers me { she's been quite since our last conversation}. however......every time we find ourselves in hobby lobby, or other places that sells wood, she asks me if I need any. we were in home Depot last week......I have been wanting to see what they have of the 1/4 inch {small sheets} of plywood.....like the modeling sheets I normally buy. she wasn't happy until i walked out of the store with a 2 x 4 foot sheet of oaken plywood {it was the best they had}. believe it or not, I paid less for it than I would have for 2 of the 6 x 24 inch sheets of the modeling plywood! it was so funny!......she'd see an imperfection, and tell me to choose another.....I love it! I didn't have the heart to tell her that it didn't matter.......this was for frame parts. she's doing her part.......and I'm not going to stop her.......I count myself very lucky. so, Andy.....Sjors, and Bob.... you don't have to worry.......my admiral will keep me in check. yes.....I do have a few thing in this demented mind of mine........I think you will enjoy them when I finally get them going. for now though........I have other builds to keep me entertained. oh, before I forget........wafting me with a pillow of sawdust won't do you any good..........it's what got me into this predicument in the first place.........breathing in the exhaust from the scroll saw....the smell of the paint.........I'm hopelessly hooked!
  18. I thought you had that one finished Augie. nice work with the hull frame John.....looks like your almost ready for planking.
  19. very nice work Giorgos....your oars look awesome. I tried my hand at making some........I ended up making about 30 of them, to come up with four that looked alike. the paint must have been a pain........you mastered it quite well.
  20. in the dictionary, they are explained as such: rabbit ears: antennas.......the apitomy of man to get reception. sometimes enhanced by the use of tin foil, or by the touch of a younger sibling to groung out the rods, to boost the reception.
  21. thank you everyone for the good word. the sanding I've done so far, made the hull look good, but it's got a ways to go yet before I can paint. I wouldn't be putting too much into the multi build.........I haven't even started them yet. I want to do three boats, built off the beaten path. the concepts are still a bit sketchy.....only one of them have a definite theme. my thought at the moment, is to get the hulls assembled, and then I can see where to go after that. I wish I could say more......all will come to light when I start the log. thanks again for you kind comments.....more will come soon
  22. this is true........but if you make a goof, you can always make another part. take your time.....you're doing fine
