  1. I think I forgot to mention: Length 109 cm, height 86 cm. Somebody wrote on the Vasa museum forum: written in march this year, so there's still hope for you gringos...
  2. Thank's for all the interest in this build. Dr Per, look here: http://forum.vasamuseet.se/org/vasamuseet-en/d/building-my-vasa-ship-model/ The few parts I have so far are actually excellent quality. Castings very detailed, laser-cutting finely tuned. No laser burns and the cut is thin as a hair. Even have problems cutting the tabs with a #11 blade(too thick). The only complaint I can think of is that the frames are only 3 mm thick. But then again there will be lots of reinforcements along the hull. I found Tamiya's "X-12 Gold Leaf" paint in my box and thought that "Gold Leaf" must be precisely the right stuff for decorations. Luckily I did a testrun on the back of the shield: Well, as usual it can't be seen on the photo but it gives a "glittery" appearance. Almost like metallic paint. But, if the Vasa decoration was made with gold leaf at that size it probably would look a little "glittery" but at a distance that would maybe blur out into a uniform golden shine. Anyway, there's far too much bumps and nooks and crannies for doing wrong here. It would be hell cleaning off paint... Remember it's only 17 mm wide! I will go and have a look in town later today and see if there's any paint that will do. Also need bronze for the cannon. problem is that even though this is Swedens second largest city it only has one decent hobby shop and he only has Tamiya and Humbrol paints. I would prefer Model Master or Vallejo but... We'll see...
  3. Hi all, and welcome the cannon (probably the 3 or 1 pounder) I think the quality is quite good. There are also 3 handles(or whatever it's called) to attach. Instructions say it should be painted bronze. frame #5 is 170 mm wide! starting to get a feel of the size of the ship now! She'll be 109 cm long in the end... This is as far you get with these first two issues. Will do the gun carriage in the next few days, and some painting next week I hope. Then I'll have to wait four weeks for the next shipment. I do this with mixed feelings. on one side the wait is good because you have the time to really get things right and put more effort in it. (I'm the kind that have a urge to rush through to get my hands on the next step in the build) Also I'll have time to finish off my stagecoach from Amati and do some serious work on my Pinco Genevese On the other hand I HATE waiting for things to arrive. When I order stuff on the web I usually order from those who can deliver it in shortest possible time... And I have to wait for the Vasa parts 36 times over!!! See you...
  4. Small update; Decoration for the stern is full of detail. Not ordinary white metal casting but more like the old die-cast cars way back when... They sound like coins. To be painted gold with blue, red and green details. lasercut looks clean and good: This could turn out to be a good kit...
  5. Well, I got the first two issues today. Unlike the Victory and such there is no magazine, only the building instructions. There was also a poster of the Vasa. 3 frames, stern decorations, thread and one cannon is what you get in these first two issues. I promised my 10-year old son that he could "help" me build it so I have to wait until he comes home from school before building can start. I will continue later this evening.
  6. When I had problems with my "Bohuslän" I contacted the Swedish company NCB. What a bunch of @#*!s. The respons was something like "oh, how bad..." I then contacted the Turkmodel, they who make the models for NCB and they sent parts at once with apologies and "if there are any more problems contact us at once..." So try contacting them directly...
  7. Looks like someone forgot to do the etching...
  8. It's not the wedge I mean, but the thing under it, and I meant it's too thick: Under the cannon, nice and thick. Some time later they discovered the error and made a thinner one: But the first cannon they built is still there, but without the wedge because it won't fit:
  9. Hi Bob. I found that the instruction booklet and the plans differ quite a lot. Seems as the plans are from before they used laser and the booklet from after the new parts where included. I decided to go mostly by the plan and used the booklet only as a general how-to. When they built the cannons they made a mistake with the part that's in the middle under the cannon: It's to high, later on in the instructions you can see that the second cannon they built have the right height but the other is still wrong. Hope you understand what I mean. If not I'll try and dig out the booklet and show you. Regards
  10. In Sweden I payed about $ 290 with shipping and I got the LED kit for free. Guess it costs a lot to ship the crap overseas... My opinion is that you're better off without it.
  11. Theres a couple of pics from the unboxing of the kit on my log, examples of the manual also. But beware, the quality of the kit leaves a lot to be desired. But on the other hand it's cheap, and as usual you get what you pay for...
  12. Well, that depends on what part of the world you live in... US: Nordic Class Boats UK: Bohuslän steamer ship model | eBay EU: Bohuslän Dampfschiff 1:45 Bausatz - Krick Modelltechnik and many more....
  13. I'm building the Bohuslän in-between other projects.
  14. Got my saw in the post today. One week from japan to Sweden. And at half the postage of what it would cost to ship inside Sweden! Also got my Sharaku cloth Now I need a mitre box that fits the saw....
  15. I have not had the time to update the log lately, but here's some progress: bottom finished. Nice warped roof there. Warping fixed with the vertical bits of Pianowire. The bridge. Bridge with LED's Funnel. The metal sheet supplied was a very thin piece. Impossible (for me) not to buckle it. Did my own extra pipes as none was supplied in the kit. This build will be suspended until late autumn as I have other ships to build now that the weather is warmer. Sanding must be done outside. I'll try to up a log of the Pinco Genovese later.
  16. The saga of lost proportions continues. Stairs Started the railing. The "Guardrail vertical parts" as the parts list state them, are made of really soft white metal. the wire is extremely hard. probarbly the best quality of the whole mess. Impossible to cut with pliers smaller than medium. Guardrail primed. Stairs totally out of proportions. Roof attached, LED's working.. The LED's shine through the roof plywood so I'll use sandpaper (grit 800) to simulate tarred paper that the original has. Hull bottom first stroke of paint.
  17. Thanks Burnside. There's still a lot of frustration concerning scale and accuracy. I've decided to try and not think about it and just go on building. Lightning for second deck: I suck at soldering but the wire is secured and glued to the wood. It isn't going anywhere... Done at last Awaiting third deck.
