The carving issue of differences is interesting. Would it have been intentional? Perhaps two different carvers with one on each side? Or maybe the same carver does one side, flips it over and does the other? I can that no matter it was done back then that there would be some differences between the sides. either by design or inadvertently during carving.

I'd say yes, do a log. It keeps us interested and helps the builder to focus. We do need our distractions from real life issues and I and others are doing it. -

Thanks for posting that Javlin. I'm going to have to dig into my play lists now for my collecton and start playing htem again. Something just seemed to hit me while your post was playing. Darned if I know what it was but it was good. -
From what I've seen, the canvas cover was on the outside of the stern, wrapped around the rudder at the lower end of cover and then the top area was nailed to the transom. I would think these vessels used something similar.

I think thats a typo. It should be "spiling". From Google: "Spiling is a technique used in building wooden boats in which a smaller component is used as a pattern against which the outline of a larger component can be drawn. This is often used for creating planks on traditionally built boats that have complex shapes."

Looking good and I'll keep my fingers crossed the rest goes well. As for the over long frames... better too long than end up too short.

Carving, to me, is one the dark arts that needs lots practice. You seem to be mastering it very well.

What OS? If it's windows, open it with Paint. If need be, file type to "JPG" and then save it and re-open it. Then click on "Resize" and select ""Pixels". Change the horizontal setting to "100" and save. Upload to your profile and you're done. If not, post it here one us can resize it but you'll still need to upload it to your profile.

I hope you get the pest problem solved. I'll ask a similar question as Keith. What kind of pests? I'm guessing somewhere between ants and relatives? Different pests have different solutions. LOL.

Good question on buying them. I've not seen them though someone may sell them. Worst case is buy some of the 4 wheeled ones and modify them.

Hmm... interesting discussion. I have the Micromark saw that's now probably 15 years old. I did "calibrate" the fence early on, for lack of better word as it didn't sit exactly square to the blade. A bit of tweeking the fence clamps took care of that. I still double check squareness by setting the fence into place and tightening the front first and the then the back I can ensure that it's "square to the blade" and then tighten the rear one. For this, I have made some "precut" tools using my laser in various widths for most of the sizes I need. I use homemade zero clearance inserts probably 90% of the time and the opening for blade is ever so slightly larger than the width of the blade so there's no friction on the insert and thus, no heat generated by insert to blade contact. I also drill holes in the insert to aid in dust removal using the my large shop vac attached the saw. And finally for cutting grooves, I blade stack. I use one when I can but otherwise I just stack enough blades together to get the width I need for cut. I have some extra screws of various lengths for those times when my "stack" is too big for the factory screw. It all seems to work pretty well for me but as always, you mileage may vary.

I think we've had about 2 Lego ship builds but not sure. Rare creature indeed. -
It does look like the Proxxon, So much so, I'm wondering if it's made under license?
