  1. Well done on the milestone Tom...splice the main brace.
  2. That is a genius idea on the clear plexiglass.
  3. The only difference I see on those two pictures is the rear mast placement. Not sure that's an error though. Nicely done on the radiators.
  4. Your backdrop shows up and sets the mood and the ship itself. Beautiful. So no fly singing.... "row...row..?
  5. I thought the ship itself was beautiful but your display takes things to a lot higher level. Spectacular.
  6. That's possible I guess to expand slightly in length, but then, I've never done at check to see. On bright side, after it dries out, it should go back to the original length to be glued.
  7. Oh... I'm supposed to moderate instead of tend to the popcorn machine???? Damn, no one told me. No pointing sticks, long rulers, potato guns (yeah.. I've done those), nope... nada. You're on your best behavior and if you lot aren't, I'll take the popcorn machine away.
  8. Jaw droppingly amazing. Just an incredible build.
  9. As for plans... find an architectural copy house that prints for architects. If you specify 100% the copies will be dead on. For the copies you have made, there should be a line on the drawing with tic-marks and the measurement. Most of the office supply places seem pretty hit and miss on this.
  10. Dave, did you pay the fee? As I recall, only the keel drawing is "free" and gets you started. At the top of the page is "how to join" instructions.
  11. I would think it would almost have to be a weapon of "last defense" as firing grape or canister would pretty much tear up any remaining rigging, etc.
  12. Grandad's and kids... planes, trains, and automobiles seems to sum it up along with a lot of good memories.
  13. OC, the bird is looking good and I'm so happy to hear the pupper is being well taken care of. Those little guys seem to get knocked out a bit by almost any med. Thanks for setting me straight on the -54 Egilman. I wasn't aware of them being "different" than the military version CW_Tom, I wasn't aware of that record. Somehow it doesn't surprise me that it could do that.
  14. Just amazing were tech is going and being reflected in models. The carbon fiber decals are mind blower.
  15. I'll join lou in the cheap seats in the balcony.
  16. Hmm... Lou and myself were chopper crews in 'Nam. He in US Army Huey's and I in US Marine CH-5's. Another member (Canute) was an F4 front seat guy. I know there others but not remembering who. I'll add, I was qualified as an Avionics Test Pilot... no pilot's wings but I got to fly in the cockpit and participate in the testing. Flying backward isn't for sissies. Had a couple of amusing mishaps related to doing that.
  17. Keep at it, Chris. It's just like the wood or plastic side... the more you do, the better you get at it.
  18. We have a major training facility here for the SkyCranes (CH-54) used for firefighting and they do heavy lift work also. They still look strange to me.. since they are -53 but without the fuselage. Like a giant spider flying through the air.
  19. I know of one or two former combat pilots (Vietnam era) here and also several others (besides myself) that were crew members during that same time. I'm sure that there's others but have forgotten.
  20. There was flight was a ( where a CH-53 carried an elephant. From Wikipedia: "One of the more different flights taken by the squadron occurred in 1968 when they participated in Operation Bahroom. This entailed delivering an elephant via helicopter from the airstrip at Chu Lai Air Base to the Special Forces camp at Tra Bong to work at a local saw mill." And if you're not believing, here's pics and two news stories on it.: This was before my time there in 'Nam but it was considered a legend.
  21. I can and can't understand why he's not happy. Artists (including us model builders) all believe the current project has problems and the next will be better. I think it's looking good, myself, just needs the water.
  22. Plus the crew chief would be real irritated at having to clean out horse droppings.
  23. A small resource to be sure, but "Building the Wooden Fighting Ship" by Dobbs and Moore has some good info on shipyards and the process of building a ship.
  24. Ah... fond memories of doing that in the choppers. Best seat in the house.... err... chopper.
