WWII Aircraft by Javlin - PLASTIC - The Unfinished to Finish
mtaylor replied to Javlin's topic in Completed non-ship models
I'm hitting the like for the model and that the shots give you relief, not hitting for the shots, Javlin. Back injuries are the worst. -
Well done, Dick. Looks like she's at home in the case.

"President Truman proposed a joint merger between the two to oversee it, but it was met with disputes. the Marines had to win out, as their CH-46 helicopters were slowly wearing out." Denis, check that reference.. I don't think it was Truman. Though lately, nothing would surprise me. I've only seen one about 10 years ago. It flew into the local airport for the annual airshow. It is weird watching it take off and land.

Yves, Just one amazing and beautiful model. And that pic of you holding it really gives an idea of how large it is.
-
That is one amazing backdrop. Not only is it well done, it complements the model without overpowering it.

Look around the outside of the fuselage, OC, for "cut marks". Some of those windows were removable for installing guns. In 'Nam, many types of choppers did have windows removed just for ventilation and also to provide a "quick exit" if needed. I'd think the forward ones behind the cockpit and rear most on each side. If the have those marks, trim the window opening to the line and Bob's your uncle.

Sometimes, running with wide-open, full-speed throttle is best for the soul and the mind, Clare. You're doing great.

Framing gunports and single planking Victory Model's Pegasus
mtaylor replied to WalrusGuy's topic in Wood ship model kits
I went here: https://modelshipworld.com/topic/17023-quick-find-indexes-to-build-logs-for-kits/ and downloaded the 1751-1800 kit logs index, Here's a copy of that. There's a large pile of logs for this kit if that will help. 1751-1800 Oct 13_2020.pdf -
Welcome to MSW, Dougal, I'll add another link.... https://thenrg.org/articles/basic-tools There's also more articles in this database as well as the links mentioned.

I've been and am (though quitting) a smoker. Never, ever smoked in the workshop. Chemicals, wood dust in the air and even on the floor is a combination I didn't want to risk. Same for torches... if I need to use the torch, I do it outside.

Nails and Glue
mtaylor replied to Neil10's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
I only have used 2 types of CA once the hobby shop explained it. The super thin is for metal to metal. Then there's the "gap filling medium" which for wood. I only use it for small bits, metal to wood, etc. For just wood... Elmer's Wood Glue. But different strokes for different folks and "your mileage may vary" so test first and figure out what works best for you. -
Delahaye 135 by CDW - FINISHED - Heller - 1:24 - PLASTIC
mtaylor replied to CDW's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
In spite of the problems, you had a beautiful outcome, CDW. This car would fit the time period of Roger Rabbit very well. -
Sails are looking very good, Jonathan. The proof is when it's mounted. I hope your wife can come out of quarantine without any issues.

The one problem I've seen with converting JPG to any CAD is that number of pixels can really mess things up. The CAD (depending on the program/application) won't necessarily connect the dots as such. Far less stress just pull the JPG into CAD and then manually trace.

Hi Bjorn, Welcome to MSW. Don't put your build pictures here, open a build log in the proper area.
-
That would be a good place to start. You might need to filter it down to get rid of "clutter" such as adding some keywords line "how can I convert".
-
For now, we'll just leave it here but use the log for updates.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
