I like that paint work. It has a "used" look to it. The aircraft I've seen never fade evenly so you do get light and darks. -

That supercharger is something one doesn't see much of. Even back in the day, it was bit rare as superchargers went. -
Welcome to MSW Gaffrig. Some of us also blame our addiction to the smell of wood. Do open a build log as it's a great way for help and making friends.

Welcome to MSW, Papa-Raigin. You might get help with researching if you post your questions here: https://modelshipworld.com/forum/13-ships-plans-and-project-research-general-research-on-specific-vessels-and-ship-types/ There's a lot of knowledgeable folks here who don't often look in this subforum but do read the research area.

Jaager makes and excellent point. I really do suggest you search in the scratch area for "RADIO". Many have added a long kedge under the keel with a lead bulb at the bottom to help with the stability. Nothing worse than watching something you've put your heart, time, and money into roll over and sink. -
Gotha G.lV by ErnieL - Wingnut Wings - 1/32 - PLASTIC
mtaylor replied to ErnieL's topic in Completed non-ship models
I quite agree. Flying into combat even in a WWII bomber wouldn't have been fun but they would have had heat suits and O2 masks. Aviators in WWI were very brave bunch to fly in wood planes, doped wings, no parachutes, iffy engines, etc. -
Ah yes. Several people were about to jail time. There's a document "Fouled Anchors - The Constellation Question" which reveals in detail what went on. Things like stealing and destroying plans. Altering plans. They did nice job attempting to fool people. I saw her in the early 70's when they had her full frigate mode and didn't realize it was pure BS. I bashed the daylights out the kit to make the 1854 version which I'm very happy with. I've been told that there's only or two other models of the 1854 sloop of war.

What Yves said. And I'll beg on bended also.

It's great. You say first effort and not happy, I say you learned. The pilot wasn't stoned. This was way before that. He's probably drunk as he knows what's going to happen. Looks like he's standing up ready to say "To heck with this, I'll be at the Officer's Club". -

Converting a Backyard Shed into a Model Workshop
mtaylor replied to Hank's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Hank, Check Lowe's online. If the local is out, they'll ship it to your store for pick-up....usually. Last time I used them, there was disclaimer about it. Home Depot might have what you need also if there's one close. -

I'm loving your bike builds. The detail is incredible. The only bike model I've ever done was the old "Widowmaker". It was (as I recall) a Harley frame with a Hilborn injected small block Chevy sitting crosswise built and owned by a guy named Potter. It was pure exhibition drag racer back in the day. -

American practice usually seems close to Lees. As for the MS kit, the plans are based on the early 1900's (1930ish maybe) refit. I have no idea what Bob used for is practicum. -
Looking great, Eric. The lettering is perfect.

Looking at the stub of spear in her hand and what you show, I think that's it. As for the sword, none of the figures you show seem to have a sword. It's possible that she may not have had a sword. The sword went along with the Roman tactics... to close hard and fast with the enemy. The goal was to be inside the enemies sword as theirs, early on at least, were longer. They used the stab but also slashed often trying to take off an opponents arm. If faced with cavalry, they went for the leg of the rider or even the horse. Once that was done, they moved on the next one. The one's they wounded and lived until the end of the battle would then be put to death. Grisly work back than. To my eye, the feathers on both helms. One is flattened and the other is "fluffy".

I'm sorry to hear that it may be lost. I just hope it's either sitting in warehouse waiting to me moved to the next stop or is traveling all over the country in truck.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
