  1. Back in the day, I did drag racers with a somewhat stock body (Gassers.. early 70's usually Vegas with big blocks). The chassis company would ship a set of plans for the chassis and a pile of pipe of different lengths, diameters and that was about it. For the body and all the running gear you were on your own. Knowing what I know now, I think I'd rather build a Pocher model.
  2. Jim, what Lou said, though I'm just about a year older. This is a remarkable body of work.
  3. Mike, Those seats probably aren't all that uncomfortable (can't have the pilot feeling comfy and taking a nap). Consider the flight suit and parachute they wear which is what they sit on. I worked on an F5 project (upgrade) back in the '70's. Interesting plane.
  4. Don't feel bad, Denis. I know several of us who have ordered from 1001 Hobbies and took over a month to get it. And this was well before lockdown. And yeah, they have the guts to as for a survey.
  5. So more like making the real thing from scratch then? Or maybe more like semi-scratch. Buy all the pieces, make some, end up with a one of a kind car.
  6. Welcome to MSW. I guess all of us are just still kids in our minds and hearts maybe. Not so much in the morning when getting out of bed sounds like a bowl of Rice Crispies going "snap", "crackle", "pop".
  7. Beautiful work, Tom. As a kit, this will rank near the top.
  8. Ah.. sorry for the misunderstanding on my part. I'll go stand in the corner and do penance.
  9. Ekis, I can almost hear that gate creaking as it's raised.
  10. Better late then never. I'm in... I'll go to the standing room only area.
  11. Since these lovely machines were handmade by craftsmen, it would stand to reason.... lots of adjustments. The model apparently follows that tradition. In spite of (or maybe more like "becuase of ") all the fitting, testing, etc. it's still coming out looking beautiful.
  12. Looking good and that's a nice touch with the yellow paint on the bolts.
  13. Just a bit of trivia here on sinking of the Blucher. The torpedoes that hit it were fired from stationary tubes build into the shore. I believe (if I remember right) there was a large gun fort above them. The Germans surprised the defenders and not all the defenders were at their stations.
  14. Beautiful work, Greg. When I look at your builds, they seem to be photo etch with some plastic attached. I've still amazed though at your builds.
  15. Emmet, have a look at the Planking tutorials. There's also a "planking for beginners" here: http://modelshipworldforum.com/ship-model-framing-and-planking-articles.php which might help. Also, give some thought on how you're going to remove those rather large nails in the planking you've already laided down. I guessing another layer of wood is put onto of this one? If so, the first layer doesn't have to be perfect, just smoothed and faired.
  16. I hope you meant "Constitution" and not "Constellation", Roger. The Civil War era Constellation looks nothing like a Revolutionary War-War of 1812 ship.
  17. If all you have is a jig saw, you could draw your line for the final size, then draw another line away from the first for cutting. After cuttting, sand to the first line. I did that in past before I had a few special tools.
  18. Here's what I found: https://books.google.com/books?id=ors6CgAAQBAJ&pg=PA78&lpg=PA78&dq="cylinder+powder"&source=bl&ots=t75Kpl3iQb&sig=ACfU3U1yJBF2QexScF5-Ci0qF9hKEist-Q&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiD7eCZneLpAhUkFzQIHffUAIoQ6AEwBXoECAsQAQ#v=onepage&q="cylinder powder"&f=false and https://books.google.com/books?id=6ifVymz576gC&pg=PA16&lpg=PA16&dq=gunpowder+"cylinder+powder"&source=bl&ots=O0xXZXSJgB&sig=ACfU3U0wIvlNSIgFHfieqy4Ik7tWC_18MA&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiSwfSEnuLpAhWuHjQIHTgPBh8Q6AEwAHoECAgQAQ#v=onepage&q=gunpowder "cylinder powder"&f=false There's other links. I use the following to search gunpowder "cylinder powder". I'm suspecting that is' not powder as such, but the powder was produced in "cylinders" and had the shape of miniature tin cans.
  19. Beautifully done, OC. And a fitting tribute to you dad and the others who flew and maintained them.
  20. Looks good, Mike. I see you might be an long path by going upward in scale for more details. I hope you don't hit 1:1.
  21. I'm thinking they both ended up on someone's BBQ just because they could. People are still acting weird even with the quarantine being lifted.
