Welcome to MSW, Vince. You might do an MSW search (upper right hand corner) for "diorama" as there's been more than a few.

Beautiful work. You did scare me when I was reading about drilling the holes for the pedestals but I imagine we all were holding our breathe until the result was shown.

Thanks for the likes and comments and for bearing with me. I feel like I'm on new ground with this one. On the next one, I'll back on familiar turf. I've had to make some decisions so I've been experimenting and fiddling. The ANCRE drawings are somewhat lacking on certain details particularly as to what's below the gundeck. They show covers over the ladderways but over bulkheads and they're not all ladders as I learned with Licorne. So, I'm taking my lead from some of the French and Polish builders and will save some time and aggravation. What I be doing is planking the deck and bulwarks from the 3rd bulkhead through the 10th and detailing that area. The rest will not be detailed and even the carriages for the guns will "different" (simplified) than the rest. I did think about this long and hard, did some sketches and a few mock-ups. Once I get the decking down, I'll do an update before starting to frame in the bulwarks for the upper deck. Peace, and everyone try to stay healthy in these trying times.

Looking good. I meant to ask earlier, did you rinse the vinegar off really really well? I'd hate over time if the vinegar ate your model.

Looking good, Steven. A real change from what you started out with. I'm guessing you're not planning on a crew for this one, right?

Mini Table Saw recommendations
mtaylor replied to captainscott's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I've got one and have had for probably 10 years. It's not a Brynes by any stretch. Never mind, I just went and a look.. and saw the current price... yikes. Unless new, I'd be careful on the Bay. -
I only saw the bullet bouncer, sir. Never saw the shin pads. We had flack vests but our pilot (the CO) wanted his crew in bullet bouncers. In deed, it is. On the roof of our hooch, we had huge ring of concentric circles painted and in Vietnamise... the words "Aim here". And then there's the nicknames.. like "cannon fodder", etc. Choppers were "moving targets" when flying and "sitting ducks" when landing or on the ground.

Ah yes... the black humor of combat. Or "life expectancy of a gunner is dependent on if he flies that day." Just the vest was available for us. I guess everything else was "unessential".

Define "cheap"? Have you checked MicroMark? -
Chris, You might check and see if there's an aftermaket grate available. They type I'm thinking of looks like a pin-cushion where the wood rests on top of the pin points. The other solution is to space the wood to be cut off the grate using some spacer wood on the outside edges of the wood to be cut.

Early on in my squadron before we transitioned to -53's. Interesting bird the -34 as it was made of aluminum and magnesium and the fuel (Av Gas) was in the belly. I liked it due the big door but then we weren't in combat.

Full size would be anywhere between 30 and 40 feet if I recall correctly. It depended on the wood available and that was for French and English ships of the 1700's. So probably about the same for yours. Ab would be your expert on this.

This popped up in war channel feed today. A nice history and first hand accounts for the Huey. https://warfarehistorynetwork.com/2016/09/19/the-uh-1-iroquois-huey-helicopter/

The inaccuracies (historically) are a part of just about every AL kit. But, they do make a nice model for the most partl

B-25J Mitchell by Tom E - Revell - 1:48 Scale
mtaylor replied to Tom E's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
Since the real deal was usually pretty beat up after a few missions, don't sweat the scratches, etc. Just cite "realisim". -
Beautiful models and a wonderful view to the outside world. What more could anyone ask for?

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
