Byrnes Table Saw Tips (requested)
mtaylor replied to Matrim's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Joss, Will this help? It's the page on sawing tips from our former (retired) wood supplier that owned and operated HobbyMill. I'm having a senior moment and have forgotten his name. Byrnes Saw Operation.pdf -
Master Korabel do have some interesting and well thought out and designed products. They (in my opinion) can give a new builder some insight into the finer points of scratch building. For example, the hull planks are pre-shaped which can give you insight on a scratch build.

Lovely A/C photos OC. I too like watching the aircraft take off and land. Very soothing to me. I"m about 1 mile from the local airport and we get a lot of AF reserve fighters as well as tankers, etc. practicing touch and goes at our airport. We're at about 1200 feet above sea level and surrounded by mountains so they're using it for training that environment. During the summer we get lots of vintage aircraft passing through for the various air shows on the west coast. Here, it's approach from the south and take off to the north.

Hi Scott, Go look at the various kit builds in the kit area for weathering. Here's the link to the index for kit builds: The builders doing the WWI and WWII battleships seem to have mastered this. There's others doing the Conny that are masters also.

Nice work on the portholes. Using that bit would terrify me also to the point of shivering in my boots/shoes.

Is this a kit or scratch and the scale would be helpful. For the brass, take a diameter from the actual gun (if you have it) or from the plans. Order stock appropriately (slightly larger) and then center and round the stock which is why to go slightly larger. For length, measure from the plans. I'm assuming you're wanting to make scale guns instead of something generic.

Moab: I use Sally's also for many items. If there's no Sally's around, just use any beauty supply shop. Y.T.: This will get you started: https://www.sallybeauty.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-SA-Site/default/Search-Show?q=tweezers

White caulking?
mtaylor replied to Bare_Koala's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
A quick search on "craft" (for Chris Craft) in the kit area might give you some ideas. -
It's great to hear that you recovered. Like others, I've had it and it's not a picnic. I love your paintings.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
