Hi Cristiano She's looking great! I can't wait to see the flags on...it'd be a bit like the 'icing on the cake'. Cheers and all the best Patrick

Hi Dennis Many thanks! You're right about the paint being a good way to show the imperfections. Ironically, once the black paint had dried, I sanded it just about completely off. Now, the hull's just about perfectly smooth. BTW, I really like the thought of the "Bat boat", as well. Do you think you'll add it to your list? Cheers Patrick

Hi John I, like just about everyone else that was enjoying your build log, was wondering what had happened to you because I hadn't seen any updates for a while. I'm very sorry to hear about your fall and I wish you a very quick and full recovery. All the best! Cheers Patrick -
Hi Dennis Those life preservers definitely look more realistic now. Nicely done! Incidentally, have you thought about what sort of stand you'll make for your AG? Eg, turned posts, wooden pillars, etc? Cheers Patrick

Hi Mike Beautiful hull! I think you've made a good decision with the epoxy because it doesn't take much for water damage to occur; so a protected hull is definitely worthwhile. Having said that, have you decided what you're going to put on the outside of the hull yet? Cheers Patrick

Hi Mike Wow and congratulations! She's looking beautiful, which is a credit to your workmanship and attention to detail. A major milestone out of the way, that's for sure. Onwards and upwards now. Cheers Patrick

Hi Pete Now I'm really jealous!!! Seriously, what a beauty. I love the clinker hull, because it's got a character all of its own. I'm looking forward to 'launch day'. Nice!!! Cheers Patrick

Hi Ben Yep. Got it! Picture paints a thousand words, as they say. Looks good! Cheers Patrick

Hi Nick Hah! Bat Mobile, indeed! I wish. Nice analogy though, because I gotta admit, that I'm also really surprised at just how sleek and powerful the hull is. Thanks for stopping by and please visit often. All the best. Patrick

Thanks Mike! How embarrassing! Is it that obvious that I took the photo in the bathroom? Oh well, I thought no one would notice.... Honestly though, it was the only room with a really bright light; which made photographing the black hull easier. All the best! Patrick

Hi Igor I know, it's frightening! But don't worry, in my normal typical fashion, things will slow down as soon as I realise that I've stuffed something up big time! Then, there's the usual delays in trying to figure out how to fix things...pretty normal for me. Cheers Patrick

Hi Igor What a magical job you've done! It would seem from the angle of the booms that your ship's just slightly heeled over as she's caught a breeze. It doesn't take much imagination, then, to picture her sailing off into the sunset, gently rolling across the waves. Where to?. It doesn't matter. Any journey's a good journey and Captain Slocum's enjoying the ride! Marvellous. Ya gotta be really pleased! Cheers Patrick

Hi everyone After a few rounds of puttying, then sanding, puttying, then sanding, etc, I decided I needed to get some paint on Symphony's hull. So, look what happened! I decided to paint the hull black. At least that way, if there were any imperfections in the hull's surface, what better way to show them up than by gloss paint? Anyhow, I'm not sure if I will stick with the black hull, but that can be decided later on. In the meantime, pls enjoy the photos below. Cheers Patrick

Hi Igor Thanks....but you telling us the secret to building the winch in micro scale is like the 'magician telling us how the trick is really done'. . I know we all want to know.... Cheers Patrick

Hi Igor Ok. Here's the way I see it: Deck lights- Good Deck houses-Good Cap rail-Good Deck planking-Good .....BUT...and it's a big but...I still can't get over the winch. Magnificent yet tiny. Complex yet beautiful. Small in size, yet big in terms of achievement! Well done. Cheers Patrick

Hi Elia Really nice job on the dory! I would never have thought of doing resin castings, so I'm keen to see how yours turn out. All the best! Cheers Patrick

Hi Mark I wish I had something more intelligent to say about your Licorne, but the only words that come out are adjectives like: Wow, Brilliant, Beautiful, Fantastic and outstanding! Strange that. I wonder why? Seriously, though. You've gotta really proud of what you've done. Cheers Patrick

Hi Igor Thanks, but I think you've got the upper hand when it comes to the super mini scale detailed items! Cheers Patrick

Hi Dennis It's always the last few details that seem to take the longest; at least that's how it is for me. As for the life preservers, I agree with you about removing the ropes. I always thought they looked unrealistic, to be honest. What/how are you replacing them? Cheers Patrick

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
