  1. Yep. I think so, but what's more important is how you're able to do what you've done despite the poor quality of Amati's instructions. You must be feeling pretty proud of yourself. Well done. Cheers Patrick
  2. Hi Cristiano That's a really nice ship's boat you've got there. A real model in its own right, full of charm and character. Well done Patrick
  3. Hi Anton Wolf, Tiger, Dog, Lioness, whatever...it still looks darn good to me. I tried to do a figurehead out of Milliput for my Lennox and it turned out looking like Kermit the Frog! If I could only do half as well as what you and others have done, I'd be pretty chuffed. All the best Patrick
  4. Hi Michael, Nick, Bob, Mark, Piet, Matija and everyone else for their likes and comments. Piet - unfortunately, the post it note pads didn't work because it couldn't bend sufficiently around the curvature at the stern. In the end, it was easier to use the masking tape (it was too late to buy the Tamiya tape that Nick suggested). Hopefully, it'll work better this time and I'll post more photos later. Cheers Patrick
  5. Well done, Anton. I love ships with a clipper bow type design. Many ships have them, but not all can 'pull it off'. Leeuwin, luckily is one that does look good with it. Nice paint job, too. Cheers Patrick
  6. Hi Igor Thanks. I think you've hit the nail on the donkey right there! I've often thought the same thing. Put it in a bottle and it'll look great...but, at the same time, I like to hold the model in my hand, touch it, feel it and show it to people. If it's in a bottle, of course, that can't be easily done. Oh well can't have it both ways, I guess. One day, though, I'd still like to give it a go. Cheers Patrick
  7. Hi Bill Wow, you've come a long way and am doing an incredible job, as well. She looks great. Out of interest, how long is the hull? Cheers Patrick
  8. Very nice Dennis! It's look like you're on the home stretch now. Once done, then you can get back to the remaining two of three stooges ....Larry and Curly. this one was Mo, before, I think...?
  9. Hi Ben It's like they say...if you don't succeed the first time, try and try again. Your ship will be an achievement once in the water; at least then you can look back with satisfaction that the hard work was worth it. Cheers All the best Patrick
  10. Hi Ben I'm really enjoying seeing you bring this ship together. Even your working parts, such as the motor mounts look good. Seriously well done. Cheers Patrick
  11. Hi Nick Coincidentally, I did see the Tamiya tape at the Model Shop some weeks back, but, of course, I never though I'd ever need it. Ah well, I'll try the post it note pads which I bought earlier today. If that doesn't work, I'll take you up on your tip. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you can join us on Rainbow 's journey. Cheers Patrick
  12. Me too! Lextin - when do you sleep??! That's some fast and nice work there! Well done.
  13. Dennis This has to be my favourite photo so far. All it needs is a tiny bit of imagination and you'd be forgiven for thinking you were in the shipyard looking at the real AG under construction. http://modelshipworld.com/uploads/monthly_03_2015/post-612-0-21932900-1426381718.jpg Cheers Patrick
  14. Hi Vaddoc Great progress so far. I can't help but be reminded of the butterfly that emerges from the cocoon. The more you peel back the supporting framework, the more of your handiwork is revealed! It won't be long before you can remove the hull and hold it in your hands. Now, that would be a milestone to rejoice. Only then can you fully admire all your CAD work, measurements and dedication . Can't wait to see the photos when that happens. Cheers Patrick
  15. Hi Michael It's great to see you back in the workshop, but most importantly, it's fantastic that Judy's well enough to come home. All the best to you both. Cheers Patrick
  16. Hi Piet That's a great idea about the post it note pads! I was using masking tape, but as you can see it still bled through. Perhaps I hadn't pressed the tape down hard enough, but it's okay because I still have at least a couple more coats to do before I'm satisfied with the finish-it has to be 'glass smooth' to replicate the mirror gloss of the real boat. I'm going to get the post it note pads as you've suggested and hopefully I'll have better luck. Cheers and thanks Patrick
  17. Hi everyone! Many thanks for all your Likes and comments! They're all gratefully appreciated. Last night was a milestone for two reasons. Firstly, I glued the deck to the hull (too bad if I left any detail off-oops!) because it'd be too late to add any internal stuff now. Secondly, I started to paint the hull - gloss black above and Matt red below the waterline. Whilst there's lots more painting, sanding and cleaning up to go (note the bleeding of paint where black meets red and on the gunwales above deck), before I can move onto other things like the mast, etc, but, at least two milestones have been met. Her are the most recent photos. Hope you enjoy them! Cheers Patrick
  18. Hi Igor Very nicely done. The cap rail really sets the hull off nicely. One question though. It must be hard to find the right kind of bottle for your models. When you finally find one, have you ever gotten to a point where you think the glass distorts the view too much and decide that it'd be better not to put it in a bottle at all? I'm just curious in case I ever decide to do a SIB one day. Cheers Patrick
  19. Hi Cristiano Very nice job on the rigging. I think the best way to describe it would be neat and precise, with all the blocks beautifully rigged, the knots tightened consistently and the seizing done well. Great job. All the best Patrick
  20. Hi Cristiano Congratulations!! Your ship's a real beauty, especially with all of those lovely sails set. Well done. Patrick
  21. Hi Tallshiptragic Great job so far. You're definitely in an enviable position to not only have access to the builder's plans, but access to the real shop itself! That way, you'll have no problem when it comes to checking out something, or measuring this or that, or confirming the placement of so and so, etc. I'm sure many of us wish we were in the same position as you! Pls keep the updates coming, because I'm definitely following with great interest. All the best Patrick
  22. Hi Dennis I'm constantly amazed whenever I look at your latest updates. Not only are you supremely creative and inventive, but you seem to be able to work at an incredible pace. The ideas just keep coming and before you know it, the ideas become reality and are transformed into detail after detail. I especially like the map on the wall. Very nice, indeed! I also noticed that there was a red smudge on your workbench (especially evident in the last photo).....now, that wouldn't be your blood having been spilt after a hard days' labour in the shipyard, would it? Keep up the great work, Dennis! Cheers Patrick
