Hi everyone and thanks for your Likes, especially Mike, Anton, Bob, Michael, Nick, Matija, Mark and Piet for all your comments, advice and compliments. I'm a much happier boy tonight!!!! I made sure that I applied the masking tape and pressed it down firmly this time and it seemed to work far better. There is only a little bit of bleeding which can be easily dealt with. More importantly, the paint finish is smooth and shiny. I've tried to show how good the gloss looks in the photos below. I'm not sure if the camera has picked up the reflections bouncing off the gleaming hull well enough; but you get the idea. Up on the deck, I've also added the gloss black cap rail, which highlights the slim and streamlined shape of the hull when viewed from above. I hope you enjoy the photos. Cheers Patrick

Hi WEich1213 Many thanks for your compliments. Yes, it may seem difficult, but I just took things step by step and it all seemed to come together pretty well. But, you know what, it doesn't really matter, because at the end of the day, it's all about fun and relaxation. Thanks once again and all the best! Patrick

Yep. I think so, but what's more important is how you're able to do what you've done despite the poor quality of Amati's instructions. You must be feeling pretty proud of yourself. Well done. Cheers Patrick

Hi Cristiano That's a really nice ship's boat you've got there. A real model in its own right, full of charm and character. Well done Patrick

Hi Michael, Nick, Bob, Mark, Piet, Matija and everyone else for their likes and comments. Piet - unfortunately, the post it note pads didn't work because it couldn't bend sufficiently around the curvature at the stern. In the end, it was easier to use the masking tape (it was too late to buy the Tamiya tape that Nick suggested). Hopefully, it'll work better this time and I'll post more photos later. Cheers Patrick

Hi Igor Thanks. I think you've hit the nail on the donkey right there! I've often thought the same thing. Put it in a bottle and it'll look great...but, at the same time, I like to hold the model in my hand, touch it, feel it and show it to people. If it's in a bottle, of course, that can't be easily done. Oh well can't have it both ways, I guess. One day, though, I'd still like to give it a go. Cheers Patrick

Very nice Dennis! It's look like you're on the home stretch now. Once done, then you can get back to the remaining two of three stooges ....Larry and Curly. this one was Mo, before, I think...?

Hi Ben It's like they say...if you don't succeed the first time, try and try again. Your ship will be an achievement once in the water; at least then you can look back with satisfaction that the hard work was worth it. Cheers All the best Patrick

Hi Ben I'm really enjoying seeing you bring this ship together. Even your working parts, such as the motor mounts look good. Seriously well done. Cheers Patrick

Hi Nick Coincidentally, I did see the Tamiya tape at the Model Shop some weeks back, but, of course, I never though I'd ever need it. Ah well, I'll try the post it note pads which I bought earlier today. If that doesn't work, I'll take you up on your tip. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you can join us on Rainbow 's journey. Cheers Patrick

Dennis This has to be my favourite photo so far. All it needs is a tiny bit of imagination and you'd be forgiven for thinking you were in the shipyard looking at the real AG under construction. http://modelshipworld.com/uploads/monthly_03_2015/post-612-0-21932900-1426381718.jpg Cheers Patrick

Hi Vaddoc Great progress so far. I can't help but be reminded of the butterfly that emerges from the cocoon. The more you peel back the supporting framework, the more of your handiwork is revealed! It won't be long before you can remove the hull and hold it in your hands. Now, that would be a milestone to rejoice. Only then can you fully admire all your CAD work, measurements and dedication . Can't wait to see the photos when that happens. Cheers Patrick

Hi Piet That's a great idea about the post it note pads! I was using masking tape, but as you can see it still bled through. Perhaps I hadn't pressed the tape down hard enough, but it's okay because I still have at least a couple more coats to do before I'm satisfied with the finish-it has to be 'glass smooth' to replicate the mirror gloss of the real boat. I'm going to get the post it note pads as you've suggested and hopefully I'll have better luck. Cheers and thanks Patrick

Hi everyone! Many thanks for all your Likes and comments! They're all gratefully appreciated. Last night was a milestone for two reasons. Firstly, I glued the deck to the hull (too bad if I left any detail off-oops!) because it'd be too late to add any internal stuff now. Secondly, I started to paint the hull - gloss black above and Matt red below the waterline. Whilst there's lots more painting, sanding and cleaning up to go (note the bleeding of paint where black meets red and on the gunwales above deck), before I can move onto other things like the mast, etc, but, at least two milestones have been met. Her are the most recent photos. Hope you enjoy them! Cheers Patrick

Hi Igor Very nicely done. The cap rail really sets the hull off nicely. One question though. It must be hard to find the right kind of bottle for your models. When you finally find one, have you ever gotten to a point where you think the glass distorts the view too much and decide that it'd be better not to put it in a bottle at all? I'm just curious in case I ever decide to do a SIB one day. Cheers Patrick

Hi Cristiano Very nice job on the rigging. I think the best way to describe it would be neat and precise, with all the blocks beautifully rigged, the knots tightened consistently and the seizing done well. Great job. All the best Patrick
