Hi folks I haven't had much time to devote to Shadow over the past few weeks, so... progress has been pretty slow. A very quick update: So far, I've only managed to set out the bulkheads on the Sun Deck's accommodation and the tender garage below decks. I know it all looks pretty rough at this early stage, but at least it's a start. All the best for 2017, everyone! Cheers Patrick

Hi Bob That hull of yours is just brilliant! I can't wait to see what you've got in store next! Cheers Patrick

Hi Jeff Wow! Your idea for making your little man is just brilliant. I think I may just nick that idea....

Hi Denis Those nets are going to add a further dose of realism to your little beauty. I'd have been tempted to put RC gear and have the winches being able to trawl the nets, (but I understand RC's not your thing). I'm looking forward to the next update. Cheers Patrick

Hey Rob I love the clock. It perfectly matches the porthole, which, together, just oozes history and charm. Very nice. All the best for 2017. Cheers Patrick

Hey Charlie Very nice job so far. After seeing the planked lines you've drawn in, it doesn't take much imagination to see just how sleek and powerful these hull's were. You're definitely off to a great start! Cheers Patrick

Hi Nigel Happy New Year!!! Thanks for joining Shadow's journey and for your compliments. You're definitely most welcomed to follow along; you're never too late. Have a great 2017. Cheers Patrick

Thanks Piet! Happy New Year to both you and Gwen. I hope you're both fit and healthy and staying out of trouble. Thanks also for the tip about the silver paint. I didn't know that, but now that I do, I'll have to make doubly sure that it provides the right coverage to protect the hull. I did, ahem, fail chemistry at school...(sigh).. On a more serious note, it's great to hear from you. I was beginning to worry because you've been so quiet (and busy, no doubt), lately. All the best Patrick

Hi Jeff Your tools, boxes, desk and the pin vice, and other paraphernalia are great. I especially like the watchmaker's magnifying glasses. Nice! Notwithstanding that, most of all, your hull's looking fantastic. I can't wait to see how you pull it all together. 'Have a great 2017. Cheers Patrick

Hey Dave Happy New Year! What are you doing staying up to 4.30 in the morning??? Don't you need your beauty sleep? Having said that, your solution to the beakhead's carvings is ingenious. Onwards and upwards! Cheers Patrick

Hi Mike Happy New Year! I like your concept for the case, especially those complicated joints. My only comment would be to have a back-surface incorporated into the case as opposed to relying on the bare wall. But, that's just my opinion. Other than that, the case is gonna look great. Cgeers Patrick

Hi Lawrence and Pete (and everyone who hit the Like button) Happy New Year!!! Thanks for looking in. Our house is a complete mess as we're having it painted inside and out throughout. Sadly, as a result, I haven't had much time to work on Shadow. Hopefully, I'll be able to get back to things once the painters have gone. Well, that's the plan... Have a great year! Cheers Patrick

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
