  1. Mark, It's worth to spend some extra money for a good quality. Don't settle for a divider under 60 dollars! I did and sent it back. Second one is made in England and I spend 90 dollars instead. Nice quality and nice protective box too.
  2. Chuck, How will the casting hold up once cured? How hard are they, because I wonder if this could be a substitute for Brittania metal that are provided in kits depending where the part is going? I am curious, as I like to try this out some day, when economy allows.
  3. Mike, Thank you for that tutorial, you broke down the whole part perfectly to a basic. I have no questions at all and you were lucky with the numbers! This planking is going to go fast for you.
  4. There are several Swedes on this site, and I know if you have any question we are than happy to help out. I certainly looking forward to this project of yours.
  5. Roger, I am sorry if I mislead you but I was referring to the link about M/S Juno. Back to you CapnBob, sorry for the side step.
  6. As Mark mentioned, did you read the article about materials and tools? I also posted that article for you to read in Chuck's planking questions. I would sincerely recommend to read through many of the help and hint articles posted. Most of the questions will be answered there.
  7. Amazon has the paint too. I like Vallejo's paint.
  8. I lived in Sweden and was part of the Steam Boat Heritage Society for a long time before moving to the USA. SS Mariedfred's hull is made of steel, a major part of her superstructure as well. This is boat I worked on during the summer of 1983. She was also a steam boat but later converted to diesel.
  9. Steve, At JoAnns I had a great service experience with one of the ladies working there. I told her what I was up to, and showed a picture. That really made my day as she called on co-worker around her. Suddenly I had three ladies explaining differences and quality of threads. They all agreed that a combination called poly/cotton would be the best for me. Pure cotton is breaks easily under tension and has "hair", while the poly/cotton doesn't. Looking forward to see your rigging.
  10. Steve, If you are to lash the boat, are you going to make her with her rigg unmounted? But still have everything viewable. Having the mast and boom placed on the gallows too. I can agree with you as for the base provided in the kit. It need some job to be part of the whole presentation.
  11. Steve, Very nice stand! Don't you think it will compete with the longboat for attention though?
  12. Erik, Thank you for your comment. I thought the more of the pre-rigging I can do outside the boat the better. Puts less stress on the mast and attachments.
  13. Progress! I never thought I were to enjoy rigging and I am glad this longboat doesn't have the complexity of lot of lines. But I am now at the stage where I am as god as at the end. The pictures in the beginning shows the rat-nest that is to be the major part of the rigging.
  14. John, From the NE corner of the same state I also like to extend a warm
  15. My longboat is using blocks and rigging line from Chuck.
  16. Max: I have bought blocks from Chuck and can vouch for them. The quality of his are outstanding and is the only ones for me with future builds. Edit: Chucks rigging line is also something you should consider.
  17. Dan, I am using the same type of magnifier as Chuck, comes with four different lenses, and I think I got them MicroMark some years ago. Haven't seen them on the market lately. There is no name on mine. But it's patented, inside it reads "Do Not Copy - Or Be Sued" good statement. Edit: Just found what you are looking for, the price seems to be in the right range too. Good luck!
  18. Blaine A warm
  19. In another posting Mike who is building a T24 tug boat was showing an attachment to his tool. So I went to Foredom's website and found a lot of goddies, The small brushless drills, seems to be something. Take a look at their items. I am not affiliated with Foredom, not even have any of their tools.
  20. I found this website during browsing for another thing. It has a lot of good info but also ideas of what we builder can built ourselves to help us in the workshop and having some diy tools. Specially lathe setup with a power drill seems interesting.
