Jack, that sewing of sails are real good, when I built my Marie-Jeanne I screwed up the sail material so badly, I left her "naked"..... on the other hand I was 13 years old at time being(which is almost hmmph 40 years ago, and MSW wasn't even born at the time. Now I have my own sewing machine, The Admiral doesn't know how to sew. Leaving curtains and other things to me. Your Marie-Jeanne is beautiful, much better than mine.

This ship is no more, the in-accurecy and lack of history made this build to a very sad story. Along with the move from one location to another, Harley got the most decent ending for a ship. A viking funeral. Left over parts and material has been saved along with plans. This is now a closed chapter. Thank you all for reading and having inputs!

Bug or Sean; don't know which name you prefer to go with, in my opinion that is what I think what Augie would have done. Beautiful done!

It is with heavy heart, learning about Augies passing. Now I take my hat off, to both Augie but also Bug, who I think not only do justice to Confederacy but knowing what Augie had in mind. In an earlier part in the build log I wrote how much this one will help me once I am getting started. Thank you

Gentlegiant, I like it at the same not. For showing details it is perfect, but if you are looking for lighting as it was in the days, there is way to much. Now it's time to experiment (dimming) to see if you can get low light (yellow color) it can be tricky..... But I like what you have done. Keep it up!

This is what I like with MSW, the sponsors are truly reading and follow some of the inputs from us. I also take my hat off for Marc. So I was both right and wrong in my previous statement. Sorry.

I found a used Henger MultiMax 18 v, variable speed 18" with stand on ebay. But when I saw the asking price 1000 dollars I wondered, are they as good as the money claims?

Erik, that is an extremely clean and nice start. With the new house I don't even have an office up and running, even less so is the workshop now seperated from the living area. With other words, some dust may accumilate. But I know what to go with as for dust collector. I miss my modelling. So right now I have to enjoy others build logs.

Fantastic build! Now is the question, what is waiting to be done next?

Buying an Expensive Kit and throwing most of it away
Nirvana replied to pirozzi's topic in Wood ship model kits
Just another 2 cents, I don't feel there is anything wrong of replacing material in a kit. All wood has different charactarisctics, have they behave when bending and taking paint and stain/varnish. And yes, if anyone of us like show the ship in her skin (no paint on the hull and/or deck), a different wood can certainly enhance the final product. -
Buying an Expensive Kit and throwing most of it away
Nirvana replied to pirozzi's topic in Wood ship model kits
Chuck, you are so right about golf even though I don't play I understand it is very costly. Okay, with golfing you will spend time out in the fresh air, in comparison to our workshops. -
Randy, If you have a Dremel with a chuck, you can make your own belaying pins. I tried it and it's not that hard. Otherwise I would recommend the Bluejackets.

Tom, all boats/ship (or I would say most) has a slight curved deck this to let water not puddling up. That would be bad for the crew running around. As for the kit of Connie I have no idea. Now it's time for someone else to help out. I bowe my head for the amazing job of the orphanage. Just wondering were you will find time for "this new hobby of your" I know how hard it is for me without the "life"job you have. Cudos to you!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
