Hi Yves, That is the framing for the Cockpit lockers ( originally they were going to open ) I liked the color contrast between the different woods. ( it made the outline stand out )

Hi Moony, I am glad that I could be of some help

Best Regards,

Pete

I'm starting to get this crazy idea. I wonder how this will look in 1/4" scale (1:48). The hull will be just under 11cm (109.5mm). Should I worry about the MIW (Men In Whitecoats) :bird-vi:  :piratetongueor4: :piratetongueor4: :piratetongueor4: :piratetongueor4: :piratetongueor4:  :bird-vi:

Hi Deon, I think it would look great in that scale you should ask Patrick ( omega 1234 ) he is the master of the small scale. I wouldn't worry about the Men in white coats.

Thank you, Nils, The use of different woods to create deeper wood tones worked out on this one. My Lumber yard is starting to get half way decent

Pete

Today, I decided to get the Deck Installed. I started by pulling out the Lines drawing, I then laid out the bow section on 1/16" bass wood, Followed by the Cockpit section. I then cut them out and dry fit the Deck sections. Once satisfied, I glued them in position.  I then faired the deck in with the Hull and sharpened up the Bow. Next will be to make the Cockpit Coamings. Here are the results

Very nice Pete!  I see e line running down the center, did you make the deck in two halves?  If so, nice looking joint.

Hi Deon and Pete

Yeah!!! I reckon a really tiny scale Hereshoff Buzzards Bay would be magical. There's something really captivating (well, to my mind, anyway), in holding a finely crafted labour of love in the palm of your hand.

Deon, if you were keen to give one a go, I'd be the first to join your Build Log.

Pete - not sure about the "master" tag, but, hey, I won't complain (LOL)!!!

Cheers

Patrick

I think I'm going to look into it.

Just need to find my lines for it and start to work out all the scantlings etc. for 1:48.

Since I'm waiting for plans and materials for the Cheerful to come I can just as well prep for this.

Oh well, here we go again..... :stunned: :stunned: :stunned:

Thank you, Piet, actually the Deck is made out of 4 pieces, it's easy when everything is square

Hey Patrick, No complaining, it's True ( as far as I am concerned ) You have got the small scale down

Hello Deon, Definitely Look into it, and start a build log, I will follow along

With a good Start on the Haven 12 1/2, I thought today would be a great day to make the Rudder. I started by laying out the rudder profile from the drawings, I then cut out birch ply for the tiller slot. I then tapered the Rudder, Sanded and installed it on the boat. I then sanded the entire Hull with 400 grit sandpaper marked and taped off the waterline, I then hand brushed Testors Flat white. ( this I feel gives it a more Anti-Fouling paint look ) I just unmasked it and took the pics. I am very pleased with the results and I am going to omit the blue water line. Next will be to make and install the Hull moldings, and to make the Cockpit coamings. Here are the results

That is true Cap'n'Bob, It did help a lot having built this boat 2 other times.( along with a mock-up that I started before the first one was built )  I have solved the issues that I had encountered on the previous builds. Wich brings up an interesting topic, How many people make mock ups or partial builds to solve problems ( I make mock-ups all the time )  The Buzzards Bay Mock-up has been under construction over 2 years thrown in the garbage and pulled out of the trash ( by Kate )more than once  re-decked twice,  painted a few times, sanded numerous times Here is a shot of it in the background

Pete

Today, I got an early start ( 4:30 am ) by cutting out the Cockpit coamings, I then soaked them in rubbing alcohol for about 4 hours. I then took the first one out of the alcohol, slowly bending it to conform to the deck shape and curve ( this took about 45 minutes ) I then took the second one out of the alcohol and did the same.  Once the Coamings held their shape on their own I taped them into position. Next will be to fine tune and sand the Coamings up to 600 grit sandpaper then stain. Here are the results

  • 2 weeks later...

Today, I started by sanding the Deck,  I then finalized the Transom shape, I then stained the transom and the ply on the Rudder a cherry red. I then painted the deck a sand color. while the paint was drying, I shaped and sanded the Cockpit coamings, I sanded them to 400 grit sandpaper and stained them cherry red, Next will be to add the stem and moldings. Here are the results, the coamings have not been installed yet
