A year to the day since I bought the kit, I am finished.  My only regret is I wish I would have kept track of my total hours worked.  Will do that next time.  Thanks for all the likes and kind words along the way.

Well done. Congrats on a fine looking model. The main thing is the fun you had and the pleasure you gained in building it. :)

I am enjoying your log. I started working on my 1805 Swift 35 years ago. I purchased it before having children and got the first layer of planking set. Then... life got busy.

All our kids are successfully launched and I recently retired. So, the little ship is once again progressing.

Very, very professional. Nice work. Thank's for posting such great pictures.

I'm currently building one for a friend of mine that has cancer and can no longer build. Your build log and pictures will be very helpful.

My bulwarks seemed a little too angular in the stern.  I steamed the back portion of them and clamped them to dry and square things up.

Given the little irregularities in the lay of my deck, I opted to plank the bulwarks after application.

My first working with the thin planking, I decided to let it take the shape of the bulwarks, angling up at the bow.  In hindsight, I probably would have used my jig to shape these planks, as I did on the outside.   Live and learn, although I must say I'm not opposed to the angular appearance.  Most of this will be concealed anyway.

At this point, I decided that I would apply the keel/stem/post before the second planking.  I applied the stern piece, and started filling it in.

At this point, I wasn't sure what to do about the stern and the post; whether to transition to thinner planking, etc. There's not good pictures or instruction detail regarding this area.  After giving it much thought, I decided to use thick wood over the entire stern/rudder area.  This would make my keel too short, so I opted to inlay the post into this wood. It should put the rudder in a nice spot still, and I like the results so far.

I glued the post in place there before doing the rest of the keel pieces.

Thank you for posting this, this is the point i am at in my build that almost made me quit - I have a bit of an idea what to do now, thank you!

I know it's been a lot of years since you finished this model so maybe you don't monitor this anymore, but I'm hoping I can still hear from you.  I am really impressed with your final planking (among other things). You used some clear tape to make a template for curving the planks.  What type of clear tape did you use and what did you write on it with - a marker?  Could you tell me more about the process.  I'm about to do the final planking on my first build, the early version of the Swift kit.  Your hull looked really great.  Here's my log: https://modelshipworld.com/topic/24292-swift-virginia-pilot-boat-1805-by-jim-in-kc-artesania-latina-150-scale-first-wooden-ship-build/
