Whilst channel hopping I happened to come across the original old film mutiny on the bounty with Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins just got done watching and seen no flag locker also the paint scene was very different from mine so from this point on I'm just gonna do what looks pleasing to my eye

Hi Steve,

You're making a middle aged guy like me feel old when you refer to the 1984 film Mutiny on the Bounty, as old and original. The actual original film was made in 1935, and starred Charles Laughton and Clarke Gable. The second film Mutiny on the Bounty was made in 1962, and starred Trevor Howard and Marlon Brando. The last film Mutiny on the Bounty was made in 1984.

Heck of a story though.

Thanks again EJ for the kind words and the encouragement I find being part of this community believe it or not actually spares me on sometimes I think for my next part of the build I really must address the elephant in the room and that is the transom carvings I binned the kit pieces early in the build thus forcing me to come up with something myself ive added a few pics of the start of that process DSC00817.jpg.7ce64b032a6d48c65a594c7e516b975a.jpgDSC00818.jpg.6133cd2c8c52ff9a32cce54acbc4c220.jpgDSC00819.jpg.d95f7d0f643579cffc3d9ee9c429c011.jpgDSC00820.jpg.38e86897a701e47c7c69c24178418d33.jpgDSC00822.jpg.64b0a34eb5be9abe26a0d567c576c17a.jpgDSC00823.jpg.d53f7fad66c47a13e22852a4e0dbcc93.jpg

Hi harry it should work in theory but I've glued the moving parts ,it's just one less thing to notice out of place after you put it in a cabinet

struggling on with the transom decorations I traced the outline DSC00824.jpg.6223abfe1262e2435bf75f845fd918b1.jpg

then drew in what I wantDSC00825.jpg.36f9e6d877fc8398424e91323faeb6dc.jpgDSC00826.jpg.5a106f35cb13e105fe625885a50e93d3.jpg

I first made this with mahogany and felt it was to thick so tried a piece of plyDSC00827.jpg.fb2be0dc1363455f514c7a85d5cb1652.jpgDSC00828.jpg.23a5c64878261a61ab1f8fc6c0ec989a.jpgDSC00829.jpg.43d94dd4a84790ee17447817b5d7008a.jpgDSC00830.jpg.03c32ecafe23d42f84106036ade8be4f.jpgDSC00831.jpg.b7013958c1a174dbe10b4d19906e8c28.jpgDSC00832.jpg.14b858af732d6bd74e66a7ab426587be.jpgDSC00833.jpg.6f2ba2ca10865efea0425f947573d23e.jpg

the ply was also to thick and broke when trying to bend it so back to the another mahogDSC00836.jpg.0e24708e393e7bd2d84d1848d3b16c9e.jpgDSC00835.jpg.3c3560c0ef40dd544a438642578b77d6.jpgDSC00837.jpg.7ba6005f50db9a88ff6b317679bf6fe0.jpgDSC00838.jpg.11ef22931fb2164a66a7064ae0735c3f.jpgDSC00839.jpg.0d5e9ece27bd57bab0b2b4bc87be3d1e.jpgDSC00841.jpg.e49b61ceb3029d2c59e08efcaf8d28ab.jpg

I am much happier with the thinned down version ive soaked it and will clamp it for 24hrs with more than a bend than it needs I plan to paint the part then add prepainted ocre strips around its perimeter kinda how I added the blue stripes at the bow

Hi Steve, every time I look at this log I learn something new.  I have to say it is amazing and you should be justifiably proud of your efforts.

The colour scheme is fantastic and makes my Constructo kit seem dowdy by comparison.  I presume that you have taken the colours solely from Mackays book and not from Billings instructions?

Can I ask you an unrelated question blocks and their rigging.  While my planking is ongoing I'm looking to make up some blocks.  My Constructo kit rigs them with copper wire!  I'm a newbie as you know, but this seems like a cop out to me.  Having sail that they are 3mm and the thought of rigging them with line frightens the life out of me - what do you think?

Keep up the good work and providing me with a great reference project.

Cheers

Nigel

Heres that transom piece out of the clamps and as you can see it has held its shape wellDSC00842.jpg.1f85e53d90846cde5d1fcf7a9d252f1b.jpgDSC00843.jpg.c91727c94f76cb1f982b41726cdf7be3.jpg

Hi Nigel thank you for the kind compliment and continuing to follow from my own limited experience many different manufactures will have there own process im not familiar with using brass wire for the blocks but would imagine it more difficult the beauty with model ship building is its flexability in those instructions not being very good we can draw from other instructions or from on here ,regardless to kit brand we are all aiming for the same result .at risk of teaching granny how to suck eggs here is how I do my blocksDSC00851.jpg.4399c7cdf566a5ebcdae82324d73d026.jpgDSC00852.jpg.63f4a115104978891a3d15d7abcdbb78.jpgDSC00853.jpg.e86494a55b7e2f893d809abc77dc4c44.jpg

dab of ca or white glue

in some instances I will make a tiny hook from an eye boltDSC00847.jpg.5d6cd3635af78daeb21d56687facac7a.jpg

and finaly for the dead eyes I do use brass wire heres a snippet from mantua instructions of a little jig and those fitted to my victory

Fantastic Steve, thank you very much - as they say 'A Picture's worth a thousand words'.  As a fisherman myself I'm totally with you on the block tying.  I think I will ignore the Constructo instructions and use thread (or at least I'll have a go)

Thanks again

Building the gallery window frames first off I hade to capsize the ship ,this is not a problem as all the parts are glued and pinned in position ,you cant notice from the pictures but I have the stand pinned to the bottom of the ship this was because in my first build when it got to rigging etc if I wanted to move the ship I needed a second stand as the ship becomes difficult to lift with one hand and move stand to new location with the other hand this way I can lift the ship with both hands and the stand follows along

DSC00857.jpg.7cff2d6132c67d9cf137b5409ecf2a8a.jpg

I took a rubing of the window apertures and taped this to a board with some clear double sided tape over my picture then I was free to build the window frame structureDSC00858.jpg.48f5703fa22ae4de8496b116f4bedfa9.jpgDSC00859.jpg.764749bb1594b89657a358a66598cf54.jpgDSC00860.jpg.133f84a74b178312f109025c0fcec264.jpgDSC00861.jpg.25ddcf0eee509fc45ab188cdbfd56954.jpg

after sanding I test fitted then painted prior to fitting you can also see how I plan to add the yellow to the red arched shape pieceDSC00862.jpg.6f7313744acdfd017a9cd8bfe6bfe4ad.jpgDSC00863.jpg.e6f17dc4c0bcd16d14c5d600a3b88609.jpgDSC00864.jpg.e8c1abbc7fc2c77af057251aab6dc063.jpgDSC00865.jpg.0f95dd4c13ed1bd07f8078fefbf1ab72.jpgDSC00866.jpg.e598b93c22df0f923948d77c0c1f8311.jpgDSC00867.jpg.015a78f9742467db8f707187699985de.jpg

and lastly I would like to thank you all for the likes and comments I love to see that little notification button lit red but earlier today this just blew my away thank you all so much

Looking very sharp! The more you do, the more I am loving the colors the entire look they are creating. While I typically am more of a fan of using natural wood colors, my hat is off to you with how you have painted this one. :D

As for the lettering, you could try printing the name on a clear decal sheet. Experiment to get the right font and size with regular paper and then you can print it onto the clear decal paper. Testors makes some specifically for this purpose that I have used on my model railroad to create my own signs and things. Here is a link to them on Amazon.

Thank you EJ I did not know such stuff was available I will def give that a go my printer is not a very good one and I don't know how it will react with decall paper but def worth a try ,I'm loving the colours in a previous post I mentioned I felt like it looked like a big toy but I am really pleased with it now,Im not sure about my technique about painting parts before glueing technically I'm only glueing paint to paint but to date nothing has fell off yet 😊

When I wanted to rename my Mare Nostrum I printed the name on some clear labels.  The one problem I had was that the label itself showed as well as the printing. The label was glossy which I couldn't hide.  I had thought that it might have worked out better if I put down a layer of Polyurethane then "buried" the label in the wet Poly then covered it was another coat of Polyurethane. Unfortunately I didn't do any experiments. However if you're thinking of going that route I would be glad to try a couple of different scenarios so you can see the results.  However, I would have to think that clear decal sheets are a lot thinner than the clear sheets I used and may not be a problem at all.

Ahoy Steve

Beautiful job buddy on the Bounty a great kit your kit more up to date then mine I bought mine in 1980 when it was first released. All parts had to be cutted out using a jig saw or just a No.11 blade I ordered the fittings to the kit with the cost kit and fittings $75.00 back then now I find Billings includes theyr fitting with the kit instead of ordering them  separate  Love the color schedule I include a couple of shots of my kit that is now completed.  Hardy Well Done Steve keep building her love to see this build grow,
