Well, as I mentioned the shipyard has been reopened, however, with my other obligations it took a little longer to just get started. Drives me nuts. I can get all the components out and try to start, and something comes up that needs my attention...like now!, so I did get the anchors re-made. This was where I needed to start. I made the stocks by turning them on my trusty Proxxon DB-250 Wood Lathe. That is probably my favorite tool in the line. Then blackened the anchors, stained to wood and added the blackened brass rings on the stocks. They are now ready to hung on the ship and properly secured. First, of I hope many new updates.

A couple of more pictures. Ah, it was 75 here today, so the lathe got moved outside on my other workshop....I'll hang them and secure them tomorrow. Progress....finally!

Looking nice John.  Wow 75 eh?  It's been rather chilly here, down into the 50's, brrrr.  At least it aint snow!

Hi Piet, yes 75 today and in the 80's tomorrow. But cold is coming in a few more days. I might need to think about going furter south for the winter. The hummers left about 10 days ago I guess that should be a hint...

But one question...I never see round bars at the top of the anchor.

Is this only for the anchors for the Morgan ?

Hello Sjors, good to see you in the yard. The Morgan had round anchor stocks. There is even some old pictures showing them. I think it is common for American ships of that era. I'll see if I can find a picture to post.

Hey Augie, Gonna be 82 here today, but that might not last long. Funny, I never paid much attention to the anchors, however, it seems most larger ships used square stocks. Glad you like the tools. Since I'm now a dealer I've really had a good opportunity to appreciate what Proxxon has to offer, and in my opinion they are superior to available lines with the exception of Sherline which I'm offering also.

Just one comment John.  I noticed you used 'rings' on your anchor.  The photo of the full scale they look more like bands.  Minor point.  I've simulated those iron bands with painted paper, painted masking tape or (my favorite) narrow lengths of heat shrink tubing.

Hi Augie, already a done deal, just got through hanging them on the ship. I've seen the straps both ways and yes they probably were iron bands.

Here is today's update, trying to get some work done on the Morgan, keep my website up to date, and work on my Proxxon Store at the same time....I get confused on which hat I have on. Some work had been done on the Foremast and Mainmast a while back, but not significant enough to discuss yet. The Formast will be stepped at the same time as the Mainmast since the Mainstay (installed at the time of the Anchor Deck constrution) will be fed through the Fairleads on the Foremast and secure to the Main Top. This procedure is done at the same time to insure that the Mainstay is tightly secured.

Yeah Tony, I'm very pleased at how she's turning out. It's almost like being on board sometimes. Only thing is that I'm sure glad I didn't have to work on her. I understand the ports of call would make whalers anchor offshore about a mile from port because of the smell. Rather hard life I believe.
