Thanks very much to all of you for your thoughts about my job... Those make me to feel very well...

I have affinity to see barrels on the deck. They look to me very characteristic and historical for period ships...

I continue to update my log...

The installation of the lid of the gun port is not right I think according to many pictures at MSW.

It must be at the same plane with the hull and the frame of the lid must be inside as much as the thickness of the lid.

The cannons must be painted in black...

The lids have to be hinged...

Ferit

Hello Ferit,

I just have to keep coming back to check on your log! It's such an elegant ship to begin with, and your excellent craftsmanship has been a joy to watch as it progresses. What beautiful work you're doing, especially replacing the kit parts with your own.

Absolutely beautiful work!! And a very intriguing ship! I love the scratch work you've done. Can I ask - are the plans very detailed?

Hi Hamilton,

Thanks for your comment.

Berlin is a single planked model. The plans are not very detailed. There are four sheets. For exemple Artesena Latina's ship plans are more detailed than Berlin's plans. It's considered that you know basic rules. Sometimes, I got stuck on, but I have solved problems via internet, thanks to MSW and another sites.

Now I look back and I can easily say there is no problem to build her...

Working for the cranes of anchor and continuation to built head rails...

I don't like mahogany wood (the single one at the right) managed with wallnut wood. I made the supports of cranes with wallnut...

Were you able to finish the rails by bending alone or did the wood need to also be cut, to get the curves. I am not sure if the word "spiling" would apply.

She looks beautiful BTW

Salute, JPett,

(Pic. No 1): I have bended the head rails (2x4 mm) with the electric plank bender tool. First, from the narrow side (2 mm) -it's more troublesome-, I have soaked the strip in hot water, then shaped it with the tool so that even it got dry, soaked again, then shaped... 7-8 times... After that, same steps with the large face (4 mm) of the strip. When I have got the simmetry for both side, I have glued them.

(Pic. No 2): For cross beams, from a block of wallnut wood I carved three rings, these are not bended strips...

Hello Ferit,

I discovered your Build after you were kind enough to visit my Wasa (so happy you looked in). I clicked on your link, and I am super impressed. The level of added details, the rebuilding of "kit included" parts is so excellent. This Berlin will be indeed very special.

I must have spent an hour looking over your entire log to date. I downloaded and put into folders several of your ideas to help me with my project. Thanks for sharing.

Your custom building of the window frames, windows, canon carriages, furniture, barrels, doors (so perfect), canon doors, bilge pump, long boat, bowsprit, hull planking, and so on...Really a beautiful project. I will follow your build with pleasure.

Oh, I have a question. Your canon door hinges; are they the Corel, from the kit ones?  They look too good and correct to be from the kit.

Regards,
