Rats... pity that as it would have made the tightening and adjustment so much easier.

good evening everyone

have i got this right

i have tried. although room for improvement to adapt a turnbuckle to hold a replicated cable in place without the need to tie the rope/wire off

any suggestions appreciated, IMG_5864.thumb.JPG.d505e0d65264b3fa7ddff4fa15246ac6.JPGIMG_5870.thumb.JPG.0b45d22b807855ffff44de2d83756a31.JPGIMG_5869.JPGIMG_5866.thumb.JPG.ebebcff71a5b9c8f47adb45eba49c47b.JPGIMG_5867.thumb.JPG.c2d04a8a26e07c6cd7c4bacc0429a8a6.JPGIMG_5868.thumb.JPG.e703cb3fca655bbfbc3094b0c0dca0f9.JPGIMG_5871.thumb.JPG.0cf0c905a36b03c7befac8e7726ea892.JPGIMG_5872.thumb.JPG.0312217e77246cd61eab7b247a0b91f1.JPG

you could go that route....it looks Ok.   I think though that it employs a few different materials and might not last too long before coming apart.  how about you keep the turn buckles the way you have them,  and when you rig them.....     slide small brass rings to create a loop in the cable,  trapping the turn buckle in the loop.   cement or anchor them in place on the deck.   then tighten the cables within the rings and apply a bit of solder or CA when the proper tension is achieved.

I yam wot I yam!

finished builds:

M&M Fun Ship - semi scratch build / Gundalow - scratch build / Jeanne D'Arc - Heller
Phylly C & Denny-Zen - the Lobsie twins - bashed & semi scratch dual build

Billing's Gothenborg 1:100 / Billing's Boulogne Etaples 1:20
Billing's Half Moon 1:40 - some scratch required

I think it would give you a tighter loop and you might be able to trim them a lot shorter

good morning everyone

well i put the shrouds in place, they are secured at the bottom, and the tops are still free to be adjusted, when the time arrives, i may have to remove the mast again to put a larger wedge in to improve the rake

the ratlines will be thread, as that is how the Ross Tiger is fitted out, although a different type of trawler

Good evening everyone

the funnel, is a large lump to just drop in place, and there are no location tabs, so i have fixed a piece of wood inside the funnel, another fixed to the superstructure and drilled through a 3rd but, this screw then pulls the piece inside the funnel down therefore locking it in place (not fell of yet)

i continued with the rigging today, and it seams to be ok, the mast is in the right position, so for now i am making up the backstays

Yves

im passed that stage, and as i nor have the free time, thoroughly enjoying it

good evening everyone, another day another update, you lot are so lucky

some of the little modules that i built months ago are now finding there way onto the build

the booms behind the wheelhouse the fwd funnel stays are in, the two cowls now have a home, but mainly there for now to ensure nothing is causing an obstruction

two booms are in the rest position, and will be rigged tomorrow, in the raised position

all the mast stays are now in place, and this week will be fixed in place so that the ratlines can go in

then outside for a few photo's

Good evening everyone,

not a complete disaster today, but the photos,  do not show what i am trying to achieve, however the steel lines are still to be weathered, and perhaps then it wont look so bad,

But my attempt at a well hammered/used set of shrouds and rats, dont look good at present

The rats are thread, right?  If they are, just brush on a coat of white glue and water (50/50) and shape in the droop. Looking good from here as it sits.

yes mark, the shrouds are steel, rats were cordage, wooden slats, or even wire, i think they are to black, so i might just redo the lot, and even think about the mast idea again, and move to a metal tube, to stop any flexing

i have today ripped the lot out, and restarted, will post an updated later

I completely understand your reasons for wanting to strengthen the mast   - I know its a different subject matter  - but I did the same in my Pearl build.

Good evening

well im not 100% sure i have achieved what i wanted, but it look far better than it did, at present i have lost the wire rope effect, and some of the ratlines are not laying down correctly, the 2ns can be sorted with a pva wash, i may try drybrushing the shrouds, anyway here is the port side

Good evening everyone

well both side are rigged for now, i dont see the need at present to do them for the third time

presently i am researching the way the booms are rigged, the plans are a bit vague, it appears that the the lift is controlled via a series of blocks and tackles, personally, i would have thought that would be slow going to pull a net in that way,

Just catching up Kevin - very nice job you’re doing here.  That was a tough call on the mast, but as others have said, it would have always bugged you.  She is looking sweet !
