I put a bit more to this model......really not warming up to the scale very well.   perhaps a larger one will turn up......one day  ;)   I found that I had a couple of pictures from June that I hadn't posted yet.   I had added the stabilizers and braces.

....and that's where I left off.   in moving forward with the model,  I put the decals on.  I should have pictures soon.

I yam wot I yam!

the new camera is better than the other one......very short window for the auto focus.   better than none at all I suppose ;)   there are only a few parts left to add to this model.......as mentioned,  a larger scale would present more detail and challenge.  it's an effort to clear the table.

definitely need to take'em in better lighting,  rather than rely on flash ;)    the decals were a tad on the brittle side....a couple did pose a bit of an effort to get them to line up.

I have a little bit more to do on her,  but the stuka is almost finished.  the canopy didn't fit exactly right,  but after some time under tape,  it seems to have kept the shape.  I forgot to glue in the machine guns in the aft canopy......luckily for me they still fit in there ;)   the antenna is glued on......just the pilot tube left to do.   then touch up paint.

this one has hung around long enough.........I put the finishes to it before Christmas......then thing got too busy 🎅    I dunno........I like it,  but I don't think its my best work.  I was hoping to put the closure on a few other projects as well.  as mentioned,  there was a fit problem with the canopy......comes in two parts.  hope you enjoy.......definitely one subject that I want to revisit in a larger scale ;)

you do have quite an array of military armored vehicles Patrick......an award winning collection!  ;)   I've done armor,  but ships and planes have always been my favorites.  the motorized feature is what caught my eye.....something I thought would be fun to do.  I really don't feel like altering the drivetrain on the tank..........and finding track to replace them would be hard to do.  I've been looking for wider rubber bands.....seems to be the best way to go about correcting this problem.  one thing I did do in the meantime,  was change the way the wire was routed.  the turret is glued in place.......to remove the body with the access for the pin blocked because of this,  the head of the pin,  which is on the underside of the chassis,  was slotted so a screw driver can be used.

985295150_1.jpg.13ffd91e34597b42e2354abae0607d11.jpg

a deviation was carved along the bottom of the back plate of the body,  and the wire was re-routed to exit from the deviation.

  • 1 year later...

I opened this one back up.........my chance at a larger scale has occurred.   a couple of weeks ago,  we were at Hobby Lobby,  taking advantage of a sale on model kits {I just can't resist a bargain}.  I picked up two 1:48 Revell kits, one being a Stuka JU 87G-1 Tank Buster.  the Fujimi kit at 1:72 scale was a huge pass around kit for a few companies......this one I feel was no different.  the molds for this kit were tooled in 1963,  but this is not an original kit.  it was produced for Revell in 2018,  but the model itself was made in China

271834664_stukabox.jpg.489a9bb00b85a05e1a9199f765906b47.jpg

there is some added detail with the larger scale,  but not as much as I would have liked to see.   one of the idioes with the kit was with the cannons.......the barrels weren't hollowed out.   it wasn't too hard to open them up.

1516499585_1.jpg.ce73528a8d96286b8357c5e5f53995b8.jpg

419545227_2.jpg.e71f77621b525c54f2bd0c57eb134eea.jpg

2108720012_3.jpg.b595d6ccdea33416ad5b838c77492051.jpg

I made sure to go far enough down the throat to make it look hollow ;)   the kit also comes with the exhaust pipes that would be seen on Stukas during the African tour.......they would need a bit of modification to make them look the real deal.  I don't plan to use them. the other model I mentioned is a Spitfire MKII

2087745119_spitfirebox.jpg.d325ee9d3f91b5a6d9fddafe83f3ad6e.jpg

it looks a nice kit,  but there is some work to do on it.  on the underside of the wings,  the openings for bomb racks and fuel tanks are exposed.  they would need to be filled in.  on most models I've dealt with,  these slots and openings would need to be drilled out or cut with an x actor.......I had to drill the holes for the gun pod brackets on the Stuka.  I haven't seen anything else on that one yet,  but I'm sure I will when I get into it more

  I have another kit on it's way to me......a kit produced by Special Hobby,  a company I haven't modeled yet.......a Junkers  JU 87A,  a variant I haven't seen in kit form....same scale ,  1:48.

bear with me...........the 1:32 kit is coming................the 'Snake' if I'm lucky  :)

the assembly isn't much different than the Fujimi kit.......I went with a forest green and a navy green for the darker camo color.   I stuck with the basic light blue for the underbelly.  the underside of the wings was painted and the areas for the intakes were painted flat black.

1780798932_1.jpg.f09425a11d600c8bebaa6a99693d486c.jpg

the gun pod brackets were added as well.

wartime here on the fourth of July..........a huge upheaval for Gibbs :(   poor guy was under our bed most of the time........some folks not realizing that evening hours is the best time to view fireworks.  the camo work on the upper part of the wings was under way......I stayed with the jagged camo design.

once the upper surfaces of the dive flaps were painted,  the wings were assembled

the stabilizers and fuselage were being painted as well.  added here is the yellow stripe..........I also painted the spinner yellow too

that's the Chrysler 300 in the box.........doing some maniacal things to it   I should do a log on it...perhaps later on when I have more to show ;)   the wing work continues......

once dry,  I spilled the camo on the flaps

I have an update on the G 1.......   the landing gear 'boots' have ben assembled,  along with more paint.  the instrument panel is shown as well with the decal applied.

the molded detail was trimmed off the panel before the decal was added,  which made it much easier to apply.  the instructions tell you to simply cut the panel out of the decal sheet and glue in place over it,  but I thought that was a silly thing to do.  the area under the fuselage,  between the wings appears like an indented 'well' and could possess the detail for a bomb rack,  but no parts for the bomb rack is included in the kit....too bad :(   I also noticed that there is a screen for the front of the fuselage intake,  but nothing is supplied for the back of it.  two pin locators are there to suggest that there is a part,  not not the case.

this can be seen in the picture above..........the prop is in place,  and it does spin.  the tires turn in the 'boots' as well,  even though I view things like this as redundant........a nice touch,  but whose gonna sit around and spin the things? ;)   I'm looking into these two things.......the bomb rack and the screen.........I'll certainly let ya know if I come up with anything.   with the completion of the landing gear and the cannons,  I added them to the underside of the wings.  with the wings in place {dry fit}  the indented belly can be seen.

According to Wiki, it was designed for carrying a 1,000 kilo (2,200 lb) bomb or the twin cannons. The couple of operational pix I've seen only show the Kanonevogel version.

According to William Green's Warplanes of the Third Reich, it was an either or; primarily the cannons for tank busting, bomb racks in place of the cannons when there were no tanks in the area. No mention of the weight of bombs fir a G without cannon.

Bottom line is don't sweat the expendables. It's a Kanonevogel. 😉😄

As originally designed the Stuka had a bomb swing on the centerline so the bomb would clear the propeller arc when dropped...  It is what made it a deadly accurate dive bomber much like the American SBD..... but as a tank buster, it was removed so no one would get the idea of loading it up with gun pods and a bomb, it wouldn't even get off the ground with both...

Beautiful job on this brother... it was one of the favorite planes of my youth.... (especially the cox u-control version)
