build logs order

Recommended Posts

Is there a way to list build log entries starting with the most recent posting and going down to the first.  It would be easier than haveing to drop down through all the pages to get to the latest status.

I don't think I understand you question.

when opening a thread, the software places you at the first unread post. That sounds reasonable to me. I would not like to go back and search for the last post I read. When a log has more pages, you can skip to the last one by using the pages-numbers and arrows next to it (single arrow:next page, double arrow:last page)

Or do I miss your point completely?

Check your settings on the logs... there's a button for each "era" labeled "Sort by".   Make sure "recently updated" is selected. Once done it should stay that way and all the logs with new posts are at the top.

When i open a specific build log, say, "HMS Terror by clearway - OcCre - upgraded"

It opens to page 1, with the very first posting for this log at the top.   I would like to have it open to the most recent posting for this log.  I haven't been able to find the proper menu item to sort this way.  Probably operator error😇

have you put any likes or comments into the log, it should then go to your last reply

Its all part of Kev's journey, bit like going to the dark side, but with the lights on

If you click on the little circle at the left of the log title it will take you to the first unread post.  If the log title is in gray with no circle at the left, then there are no new posts in that log since your last visit.

It doesn’t seem to do that.  It seems to jump into the middle of the last page.  I guess that might have been the last posting I read .   But that doesn’t do what I want.  I want to jump to the most recent posting regardless of what I’ve looked at before.  This would be analogous to listing email starting with the most recent message.  Last in first out.

That has been my experience as well, and I find it useful. If any mods are considering fiddling with defaults as a result of this thread, great, full marks for responsive management etc but this is a feature I rely on.

Please, just make it optional or controllable if this is changed. Pretty please?

That's exactly what the system does. It's 'unread content since last visit', so will put you right at that point.

We've no intentions of changing this whatsoever, even if it were possible, and I don't think it is without fiddling with actual code.

Just an observation:

Sometimes I find that happens usually in photo heavy threads. When I click on the link to get to the last unread post, it does take me there, initially, but the photos can be slower to load. As a result, the bottom of the page gets pushed down as the photos load (in previously read posts) and expand the thread, leaving me somewhere floating in the middle.

I’ve long chalked that up as being the nature of the beast.

It happens to me too, Andy.  I just page down to the point where I get the separator line indicating "New content begins here".  I just assumed it had something to do with my browser, but your explanation seems more feasible.

It sure is!

Those photos still have to load, providing you haven't already seen them, in that case your computer should pull them from its own cache quickly, and you'll only be waiting for the new images to load.
